I wished the XR package was out when I bought my JLUR a year ago. Even if you mod (like I did), it is always better to start from a stronger platform.

I think Jeep purposefully is being vague on the contents of this package and not making it widely available. If too high a percentage of people get it, then they need to do the EPA/MPG ratings with it.

I still don't think we have a definitive list of everything it includes, and even that video has several inaccuracies, like saying the wheels are 8.5" wide.

From that package, even after all my mods, I still wished I had:
- the 4.56 gears (to push my 37s)
- the iron knuckles (to reduce my ball joint click and pop and be stronger)
- bigger brakes (to stop those 37s)

It would take over $5,000 labor and parts to get just the above pieces.

Great video. Reinforces the value of the XR package for $4k. Jeep did not do a great job marketing this package.

So what does the Venn diagram of “people who think the XR package is an amazing value” and “people who complain that buying a Rubicon is a huge waste of money” look like?
One of the segments include people that don't know or don't care about resale value.

would those "bigger brakes" be the same bigger brakes that are part of the Willys package?
or is this yet a 3rd different brake variant?

anyone looked up the P/Ns yet?

I didn't realize that there were so many tweaks to the XR, including upgraded brakes:

indeed.
a Willys Diesel XR would have gotten me close to where i'm ending up anyway,... would have been nice to start there!

I'm still pissed that Jeep didn't offer it with the 3.0 Eco-Diesel. I really wanted both, but the Diesel won out in the end.

I thought the XR had Iron knuckles too but in the video he said "Steel Knuckles"..?

There's a TSB for the ball joint noise on 2021s. Mine was finger tight.

Thinking about the Quadratech threads - isn't that the same guy that did some of their videos a while back?

Hi,

So how are the brakes different from the standard Rubicon?

Larger rotors or thicker rotors?

Regards,
Jim

I would have paid more for the XR if it was offered on 2-Doors. Are the XR brakes and axles better than what you can get on a normal Rubicon? At least I was able to get 4.88 gears...
