My front plate has been in my windshield on passenger side since I got it in July, I pass police every day and haven't been bothered about it not being on the bumper.
I drove my Tj for 10 years with the front plate in the windshield, and again, never bothered about it

I got a piece of T6 aluminum, 1/8", from the local welding fabrication shop. Same dimensions as the license plate. Butted it up under the fairlead and drilled a couple of holes to mount. The bottom half of this has no support from the bumper which is why the 1/8" backing plate. License plate is fastened to the backing plate at the bottom with a couple of 1/4" screws. You can either tap the top holes in the bumper or through-bolt. Cost $5.

Interesting, a $50,000 jeep---with the license plate in the windshield !

Ain't technology great ?

I guess they require it here, but it is totally totally not enforced. I think I remember a cop telling me once that they don't enforce it because they can always use it as an excuse to make a traffic stop of you if they're in the mood.. instant probable cause.

25 years here in SoCal, and never once a front plate - or a stop or a ticket for it. If you do ever get the ticket, it's a "fix-it ticket" meaning you remedy the violation and pay a $25 "dismissal fee" or not fix it and pay $114 fine.

There are lots of people who bag on California - it's actually pretty cool here!

This is true. I never ran one on my sports cars, but I don't mind it on my Jeep. That said, I don't want to drill holes in case I have a change of heart.

they changed the law here in Ohio, but it doesn’t take effect until July 2020.

I’m not drilling holes in my bumper, and I’m also lazy. I like the plate in the window solution!

at least til I can figure something else out.

I'm not crazy about drilling through the steel front bumper to mount a license plate. Are there any good alternative options?
Don’t. Looks better without.
