After the total shit show x3 with my AEV-installed Nitro 4.63 gears (https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/forum/threads/nitro-4-63-gears-repeatedly-failing.113013/) there's a decent chance (fingers crossed) that AEV will be replacing my rear AND front gears.

This is for my heavy AF EcoDiesel on 37s. 4.56s are probably as short (highest numerically) that I'd want to go...unless there's a decent reason for something different.

Any recommendations on replacements? Are aftermarket gears significantly better than Mopar's? Note that the dealership will continue to fix Mopar stuff for the life of my extended warranty. But, of course, I'd prefer the gears to simply last.

Aren’t the Mopar ones Dana ? Before purchase of the recommended Dana’s I investigated a high dollar race gear company (memory fart on name) that made “Rock Cawler” or similar….. they talked me out of them saying theirs weren’t enough better than finished Dana’s for the price (~double), the biggest difference was theirs were also shot peened IIRC that made them slightly stronger for competition use. Also a few months back order at that time.

Crown Race Gears- 🙄 don’t laugh, your turn getting old is coming.

Dana Spicer, one thousand times over.
This.

Mopar doesn't make gears for the Dana axles. They buy Dana gears. That's what I would use

Ok, so have them replaced with Dana "Mopar" gears that will be covered by the Mopar extended warranty. Makes sense.

Dana gears were expensive and hard to source years ago when i went to 4.56s, and the shops i talked to had seen more problems with them than what they preferred.

i ended up using Yukon, which was one of the top 2 preferred by the shops i talked to. broke them in fastidiously, and haven't had any problems with them (yet).

OE gears would be best. They are premium material and they are shot peened.

Yeah, I've been wondering about the various treatments that people sometimes mention doing to theirs.

X2, what did you wind up doing and how's yer gears? Researching possible upcoming gear change from factory 4.10s to maybe 4.56 for my new 35s. Driving it a bit and need to go wheeling before any rush decisions. :)

What’s the question ? “We always recommend Dana for these” “Will” at ECGS 919-672-2705 ext 1011. He sent them directly to Gear FX for isotropic finish, $125 per, Highly recommend both him and the finish. Break in Procedure
• 500 mi oil change. Period. No grinding them in with heat cycles and oil changes. They also run cooler. $250 well spent.

I was wondering if he replaced them with Mopar gears under warranty or if he had Dana Spicer gears installed? I have read very good things about DS gears over the years.

Dana is what my research has decided.

Isotropic finish and that break in sounds interesting, just watched GearFX video on it...wow. GearFX now permanently closed, dangit!

They weren’t the only one, Will would know. He was good to work with, I had made calls and left messages. A member recommended him, he had them shipped to FX before I got a return call. No extra step or shipping, just a call to pay FX. Do call him at his extension, one of the other calls was to the ECGS general number.

Another company I had read about in the past was Yukon. Are they decent gears?
