RockHard4X4 sliders. I’ve used them and they have held up. 10/10 would buy again.

On the other hand any slider mounted to the JL's thin front quarter panel sheet metal is suspect. Maybe they pulled them due to customer's reporting body damage? If so, I applaud them pulling a product that doesn't meet their standards...

Buddy of mine has the JCRs and uses them probably every other weekend. He did end up with significant body damage over time - deforming of the fender and kick panel area pretty badly.

LOD Destroyers. They are super sturdy. They work great as a step and if I need them to I'm sure they will hold up very well against rocks.

Shrockworks makes a nice frame mounted slider for the 2 door. I have them installed on my 2 door.

Dumb question, do the tread plates come welded on already or are you expected to do it? Seems like they come on it if you pay for that option, logically it makes no sense for them to send you coated parts to then weld yourself.
Sorry for necro, trading my 4 door for a 2 door and am excitedly researching my projects for this summer/winter.

They come welded if you add that option. They're great sliders if you don't mind the long wait times.

These sliders look legit. How do they mount?

They're frame mounted. I've got the all painted but I need to put my armor skins on before these go on. I'm hoping to get them on in the next couple weeks. They're extremely stout.

Got them painted and all mounted now. Install was very straight forward. Had to drill 8 holes that's it.

Used steel it paint and really happy with it so far.

Define body mount vs frame mount?
By body mount do you mean attached to the pinch seam like the OEM running boards?

These sliders appear to mount up to the frame bolts. Correct?
I've also heard that it can be a bear to get the frame bolts off for the first time.
AKA people have sheared the bolt - apparently the factory used lots of Loctite.

Looks like frame mounted, I think. And as for the bolt, it's definitely a challenge. You need to do it by hand in small increments, loosening it a little and then turning it back in the tightening direction before continuing to loosen - over and over again until the bolt is out. It's covered in red threadlock. If you use power tools or wrench hit hard to get it out, it's likely to break.

Those appear to only mount to the body bolt. Look for one that also mounts to the frame in another spot. That's a lot of leverage and the mount doesn't look strong at all.

For example ace uses a body bolt mount but it's boxed and much more robust. If only frame mounting to the body bolt something like aces bracket is what's needed. Ideally tho you want another point to frame mount.

Each mounting point of a frame mount slider will attach to the frame in more than one place. Body mount sliders typically attach to the body mounts as well as the body itself using a series of rivnuts or existing holes in the pinch seam to spread the stress along the body. The picture above is neither, it is a side step and will not provide protection from rocks, logs and the like.

Old Thread but FWIW,

I went with RockHard4X4 and I would buy them again. I have already beat on them and they have held up well. Of course I use them as steps every time I get in and out of my jeep.

Installation was a simple, one person, affair. I used a heat gun to get the front body mount bolt nice and hot before I carefully removed it using hand tools. I re-heated it a couple of times. After a few rotations, I would turn it back in a 1/2 or full turn, whether I felt binding or not. After I did the first side, I ran over to HF and bought a longer 1/2" ratchet for more leverage on those body mount bolts (especially the front one). But I still used caution as I removed the other side. Once out, I ran the bolts through a die to clean up the threads before I reinstalled them. And, call me crazy, I used anti-seize instead of loctite. I paint marked the bolts and they have not moved.

Good luck.
