It said I have battery voltage of between 13.4 and 13.9 volts on the 4 mile drive home tonight. I just replaced the main battery last month after it wouldn't crank one morning. Now I'm wondering if that was needed. Do I have an alternator problem? and auxiliary battery problem? 2018 stock JLU

Seems really good. You usually see over 14v but only if it needs a big charge, since it's new, it's only throwing enough to trickle charge and drive everything electrical.

It's fine IMO.

If you had to replace your Main battery, replace your Aux. They're linked so your Aux is either bad too or is very close to going bad. If you don't replace both at the same time it will overstress the Main and shorten its lifespan.

It's not uncommon Bill, given the smart alternator of your JL, for you to see such large voltages upon crank. The JL alternator has the ability to regulate how much current it provides the battery, based upon what the vehicle perceives as need, in so doing and in turn, regulating how much it taxes the engine (read: saving fuel when battery charging is less indicated.)

Normally this voltage number should drop during your trip.

That said @Reinen is very much on point. Either change out your ESS/Aux battery at the same time, for the reasons he cites about the two batteries being connected in parallel 99.99% of the time, or, if you can do without the ESS system engaging, we can talk (upon your request) about how you can remove the ESS/Aux battery from the vehicle's electrical system altogether to prevent it from cannabilzing the main battery.

Appreciate the responses.

It's not the voltages I'm concerned with, but rather that the computer felt the need to show them to me instead of my usual "No messages" display, as if there's something wrong.
I'm thinking I'll get the aux battery replaced.
