AZ newbie - COVID camping help

Howdy Team
New to AZ, haven’t spent any time outside of the Valley yet. Picked up a JLUR and would like to get some dirt on it and take my 9 year old on his firer camping trip. Wondering if anyone can recommend a easy, *SAFE* camping spot that is open during quarantine.. Would be a 1 night camp, maybe 1 hour or less from East Valley. Open to any / all ideas or recommendations. Will be ground camping in a tent (minimalist). Just want to get outdoors with my dude while we have some time during lockdown. Thsnks for any topics or advice!

Booked a spot at McDowell Mountain Regional Park. Staying in the tent only area. Now that this part is cleared up - if anyone has stayed here and knows of a easy trail we could hit, that would be great. Something we can safely hit solo unless we meet up with some other off readers.

Five trails rated easy on the All Trails App. Not sure what is open and what is closed in Arizona. You should call and check. In California all state parks are closed to vehicles, some Forest service trails are open and most BLM land is open.

Four Peaks OHV Road

The Rolls West OHV Trail
Bulldog Canyon to Bush Highway

Bulldog Canyon is where I would suggest. Take note as of today camp fires are banned statewide through June. There is a small fee for a permit at Bulldog. It is a neat area but some people chose to liter and go off the trails so they are restricting it more. But a great area close to town.

JFYI...if you were shooting at Bulldog, it isn't allowed. If not, disregard.

Plenty of places in the valley to shoot legally on BLM land though....at least until the 5 new ranges become functional; then BLM may close all lands to shooting except on the approved 5 ranges scattered around the valley.

Sycamore with 4,500 other shooters.. Never again.. Place is unsafe.. I'll go wheeling on a Tuesday but wouldn't go back on a weekend in the spring - especially during quarantine!!

Been running Bulldog a couple times a week. Really enjoy taking the south route at the halfway split if you come down from the west..
