I have to admit I thought I would absolutely hate the Auto Start/Stop feature because i have driven other vehicles with it and absolutely hated it. I find it a complete non issue. It might because of the eTorque or maybe it is just a better implementation of the technology.

Has anyone compared the 2.0 vs the 3.6 Auto Start/Stop feature to see if the 3.6 Auto Start/Stop works just as good as the 2.0. If it does people need to stop complaining about it in the JL. its a good system.

Actually, I was curious if there was a difference.. Last week, while I was at a dealership I drove a JL with the 2.0. Anyway, ESS with that 2.0 felt the same as ESS with my 3.6.

In closing, I don't rant positively or negatively in regard to ESS. I did disable it with a Tazer JL, days after I received my JL.

Thanks for the info. I hate the Jeep dealership in my town so there is no way I would go test drive one to compare.

I keep my vehicles out of the service departments unless there is just no other way. I don't take advantage of freebee oil changes or rotations, etc..

I DO have a decent relationship with two of my local Jeep dealerships though. They know me, know I am into Jeeps and oblige me when I want to test drive, ask a tech or parts guy questions.

Also..... While the 2.0 seemed peppy, I can report the JL, 3.6 in comparison is no slouch lets say.. 8-)

My JLU is the 3.6L with Auto Start/Stop and it is a significant feeling when it engages. Coworker just purchased the 4cyl and the feeling is much less noticeable.

My non-scientific guess is less rotating mass makes the 4 cylinder less clunky

No, it is the eTorque system that makes it smoother.

I have not driven, nor owned anything with S/S. However, I do live in an area with 9 inches of rain a year average, and its not unheard of for triple digit heat to last a couple of weeks. Does the a/c still blow cold at the light, or say in a line at a drive thru where you may be stuck stationary for several minutes?

ESS can always be disabled. And as FUHL said above, "Start/stop is disabled when ac is on high". I sometimes cheat. When I want the AC to pump out cold air and ESS is on, when the engine cuts out, I lift off the brake so that the engine cuts back on, then fully reapply the brake.

If I am stopped too long at a light or in traffic the engine will start back up on its own after the ESS stopped it. Assume it has to do with the temperature in the cabin trying to stay regulated, but that is just a guess.

I agree I test drove both back to back before buying a 2.0 and it was much smoother and less noticeable on the 2.0. Almost unnoticeable. Huge difference to me.

It depends what you have the air set to. I had this issue more when I had the air blasting but when I started using the auto function set to like 72 it does it less. There’s a screen on your dash you can go to that says Start/Stop and it will actually say the exact reason start stop tuner back on etc. it will say cabin temp too high or whatever the other reason is etc.

Same experience as you: I test drove a 3.6 Rubicon before driving home with my 2.0 Rubi, and for some reason I also found the ESS feature much smoother on the 2.0. I’m not sure why it would have a different feel, but I agree it felt more fluid and less noticeable.

Not wanting to get into a is ESS good or bad conversation.... but.......... I posted in another thread today that the Tazer JL and Taxer JL Lite both work with the 2.0 as well as the 3.6. SO, if you want to disable ESS, change tire sizes and such, do know that there is a programmer that works with the 2.0. Only programmer that does presently is the one I mentioned.

If I understood my research correctly, the 3.6 when it stop starts it’s a regular on/off of the engine. The 2.0 when you start it up the first time it starts normally but then every stop/start it’s using only the mild hybrid battery system to restart it so it’s the etorque system. It seems much faster, quieter, and smoother on the stop start vs 3.6
