I know Advanced Adapters is supposed to be releasing an atlas just for the JL, but it can't do front digs :(

Has anyone here installed the older 2 or 4 speed style?

Itā€™s been released. It CAN do front digs. Currently 18-20 week lead time. I have one on order. Search YouTube for ā€œGenright Advance Adaptersā€ and it should be the top video that comes up. They explain it in detail and show it.

It exists, twin sticks and all! And even a 392 version at that ;)

Itā€™s going to be a bit before I can install it. Advance put the flanges on the wrong sides and are sending me new nuts so I can swap them. Another annoying thing is there instructions are horrible: disjointed, not clear, and definitely not complete.

3.0 to 1.
Hopefully installing it finally at the end of the month. Grenaded my rear locker, so there was a bunch of time and money spent dealing with that mess.

Iā€™ll help cool you off. I just learned yesterday that the adapter Advance has been shipping out for the 392s is WRONG and this wonā€™t even bolt into my Jeep. They tried to play it off like it works in some 392s, but not others depending on year. Thatā€™s utter BS and while it may work in a Ram truck based 392, all the JL 392s are different, but the JL 392s are all the exact same transmission no matter what year. The 392 project manager at Jeep told them this, I confirmed with them before I ordered it, and they still didnā€™t bother to get it right. Theyā€™ve never tested one in a 392, they were just ā€œhopingā€ it would fit. To make it worse, they never reached out to any of us that already had them to let us know. I happened to call with a different question and then it came up šŸ¤¦šŸ¼ā€ā™‚ļø My buddy also has one for his 392 sitting in his shop thatā€™s now worthless to us. And now we are getting different answers on when the correct adapter will be available, Steve told me a couple weeks. Then my buddy calls and talks to Alex, he said 2-3 months šŸ˜”

They do have 2 adapters that will work with the other power plants like the 3.6 and diesel, but for now, 392s are still waiting.

Good product, horrible communication, and horrendous instructions.

Just to add knowledge/details here. First photo is the adapter Advance sent with the Atlas. Second photo is the top of my transmission looking rearward. Obviously different patterns! 3rd photo is from an internal email at Advance overlaying the 2. Interestingly enough, it was emailed internally on Dec. 23, 2022 - AFTER they had already shipped this to me and one to my buddy šŸ¤¦šŸ¼ā€ā™‚ļø

Since the 3.0 diesel uses the same transmission as the 392 I have to speculate that it may have the same issue.

The diesel uses the same tranny, but with a different bolt pattern. It will work in the diesels.

Well, my last post was not completely accurate regarding diesels. My friend and I attempted to install his Atlas in in 2020 diesel over the weekend. Short answer is that it wonā€™t work. We had been told that there were a handful/half dozen or so diesels running around with Atlases in them. While that is true, the shop that has done them was fabricating a bracket to make the adapter able to bolt in, AND there is questionable spline engagement with the way they are doing it. The shop is reporting to Steve (Sales Manager at Advance) that they were getting ~3/4ā€œ spline engagement by not using the included spud shaft, but using the other parts from Advance. Steve was surprised by this news and surprised that the shop had not reached out to them. (No need to bad mouth them here, since I havenā€™t seen their work first hand) Based on our measurements of the diesel and using that configuration, there would only be 1/4ā€ or so of spline engagement. Obviously not acceptable for the output shaft of the transmission or input of the Atlas. Steve informed us that we are the first real and informative feedback they have had for the Atlas. It may be as simple as swapping out the Atlas input shaft and fabbing a mount for the crossmember. We will see what Advance says tomorrow with the pictures and measurements we are providing.

And an update on the 392 fitment status, Advance is hoping to have a new adapter, etc. for us by the end of February. Iā€™m sure King of Hammers in between now and then wonā€™t help speed things up at allā€¦

-Update for diesel fitment-
Advance sent a longer input shaft that my buddy swapped into the Atlas. Today we installed it and ran into a few more issues. The transmission heater on the diesel is completely in the way. It totally interferes with the shifters. And would likely also be too close to the front driveline. (Side note, the Atlas front output is 1ā€ closer to the center of the transmission than the factory case). If you wanted to keep your transmission heat exchanger, you would have to modify the Atlas shifter bracket. And may have other issues, who knows.

You can see the gap between the case an the adapter, while the bracket is slamming into the heat exchanger.

The heat exchanger removed-

We are completely removing the coolant lines (Iā€™ve seen others tying the lines together back near the transmission). We pulled them completely out and heā€™s capping them at the tees in the main coolant lines up front by the radiator. Tomorrow we have a tubing master friend come over to help us modify the tranny cooler lines to fit into the transmission ports.

We had cut the top of the adapter off to clear the heat exchanger lines before we realized it had to come out completely.

Every single step with the Atlas and fitment has been a total battle, here are two small examples of the constant frustration. The shifter cable hold down bracket that came with my friends would not work, no matter how hard we tried. So we dug into my parts and realized mine was slightly different, and it works perfectly. Just one more phone call to Advance (they are on speed dial nowā€¦)

The shifter cable ā€œblocksā€ were also an issue. The one on the left was milled wrong and again, would not fit at all. Once again, robbed my parts to get his installed. Obviously not a huge deal, but if my parts werenā€™t here, it would be a total show stopper. And after all the problems weā€™ve had, itā€˜s just one more thing that adds to making this a total pain in the butt.
