At 65 MPH what RPM are you at?

This a question for stock 8-speed automatic JLs only. No tire changes. On a flat highway doing 65 MPH what RPM are you at?

Please list 2.0 Turbo or 3.6?
Limited slip differential or not?
What model, Sport, Sport S, Rubicon, Sahara, Moab?
2-door or 4-door Unlimited?
What gear are you in?

1,800 sounds about like mine as long as it’s flat or down hill. Any kind of a hill, even a freeway over crossing, my stock 3.6, 8 speed jumps to 2,200 or so.

If you put larger tires on it strogly consider gears at the same time if you want to keep drivabilty as close to stock or better

3.6L auto.
It all depends.... wind behind me and top up then 1,900. It top open and against wind it sometimes stays in 7th for a while. I did not re gear as Ruincon has 410 and it falls witching it’s range.
I did get a non Rubicon 3.6L loaner and it was 1800 at 65mph

Thats what the instrument cluster looks like with the 5" Uconnect. A Sport S with the 7" Uconnect will have the upgraded instrument cluster that comes standard on the Sahara/MOAB/Rubicon.

Here's my JLU sport manual V6 at 65 in 6th. Pretty much right on 1,700 rpm. I wouldn't cruise in 6th at 65 as it's borderline lugging and would be hell on the clutch if you tried to stab it there. I ride in 5th mostly, and downshift to 4th for passing:

6th is pretty much useless for anything beside the interstate at 70+ mph.

Our 6 speeds have 2 overdrives, 5th is 0.81 and 6th is 0.72 (https://www.quadratec.com/c/blog/2018-jeep-wrangler-specifications ).

The old NSG370 had only one overdrive, 6th gear at 0.84 (http://www.novak-adapt.com/knowledge/transmissions/manual/nsg370).

So our 6 speeds have a really tall 6th gear. The sport 3.45 axle ratio is barely adequate with stock tires. I have 33” tires and plan on 35’s in the future. I plan to regear to 4.56’s (and add lockers, and get rid of the FAD, but that’s another story).

At 65 MpH I’m at about 1650 RPM, and definitely lugging the engine if accelerating.
I use 6th at 70+ speeds only.

Keep your RPMS above 2k, no matter what gear you are in. The motor doesn’t like to be below 2k rpms.
