WHY I AM ADDING THIS SKID PLATE: This is a known weak point with the OEM EcoDiesel skids. I unfortunately discovered this after the Moab trip. Luckily, I only experienced a minor issue after destroying my stock skid. https://www.facebook.com/.../permalink/870869020952036/

WHY I CHOSE ASFIR 4X4: This was the only fuel filter specific skid I could find which did not require additional aftermarket skids to be purchased for the piece to be added.

SKID PLATE SPECIFICS: Aluminum, Weight-7 pounds, Country of origin-Israel, Shipping-$40.00, Cost including everything-$148.00 https://www.asfir.com/skid-plate-547560.html

1-out of-5 "Busted-Knuckles" installation rating. It basically would have been a ZERO if not for the contortions I had to do so I could get the 4 trans skid bolts attached and held while I tightened them.

There are NO directions included. This is not an issue because by lining up the 2 bolt holes at the frame and facing the skid "FORWARD" like the parts list shows, common sense dictates how the plate is attached (see below pic supplied by ASFIR).

ALWAYS B4 STARTING ANY MOD, Check Parts List! DO THIS B4 starting your project! I have started more than 1 mod & then discovered missing/incorrect parts. Both times the companies offered EXCELLENT customer service, BUT who wants to start a project and then have to pause mid-disassemble to wait for something else to be delivered? Great service from Quadratec and MetalCloak though!

NO SUCH ISSUES here with ASFIR 4X4!

TOOLS USED: - 5/8 socket to remove the existing bolts from the frame, 17mm to replace the new bolts into the frame you just removed, 13mm socket & wrench to add the 4 new into the existing trans skid

Loss of ground clearance, 1/4+. I state the + because there is additional air space between the existing fuel filter skid and the new. The ASFIR does snug up tight against the existing trans skid though.

In theory, this mod will allow me to slide past and not shear off the fuel filter/OEM filter skid. Even if I land on the new skid and it bends up onto the stock filter skid, I hope this helps eliminate my previous issue.

You may notice the drain extension hose I added to assist in a quicker/cleaner drain solution for the water-in-fuel draining procedure. I can change to a longer one if needed after this installation. https://youtu.be/PyVsiXeIqUc

I did not (yet?) paint the aluminum skid. The main reason is because it is too cold at home to do so. As a result/bonus, being unpainted makes it easier to see the plate for the install vid.

Ultimately, only time (and hitting it on rocks) will prove if this skid will be a worthwhile addition. I will report back next Spring through Fall wheeling season.
