I did Apache Trail today. Lots of fun, and wonderful views. Next time I want to do the Four-Peaks / Apache Trail combo loop. Would be easy to do in a day, or if it was nice out as the OP noted camping would be fun to split it up. My wife loved the views, and also had a great time.

I like that drive. Was there still a fair amount of washboard? I actually need to find some to diagnose a noise made when driving on it

Yeah, very much a washboard over most. We took a few side trails / washes and was amazed at how smooth they were compared to the mail trail. The one wash we took ended at the second lake (Apache lake) and was a nice detour.

After the washboard Apache Trail, I am thinking really hard about going ahead and getting the Falcon 3.3 again so I can soften them up. (Also have a feeling I am going to really like the higher speed desert runs, so may be useful.)

Hi, few things that I'm familiar with, Apache Trail, and 4 peaks is a one day deal, though you could camp easily on both. I'm unfamiliar with box canyon/senator highway but would like to run box canyon, for sure.

Schnebly Hill is closed at the moment, so your gonna have to wait till spring for that to open, however, while you're up there, I'll recommend FR535.

Also, I'd recommend Montana Trail, Superstition Mtn's. as well as Bloody Basin/Cave Creek. Can camp on Verde river @ sheeps bridge + there's a hot spring there worth your time!

We were hoping to find part of Schnebly hill open to play in a little snow, but alas twas not to be. We still had fun exploring around Flagstaff, and getting a good chance to test out the K02 in this snowstorm thats hitting. We decided to just stay the night so more can accumulate over night. (Wife and daughter are like me, want to play in as much snow as we can. However tomorrow heading back to Chandler.

Here we are parked at the gate to Schnebly hill. (East side gate)

I was out on Perkinsville road yesterday, it's open all year and is a 47-mile run, or thereabouts from Jerome, to Williams. Certainly worth your time. Ashamed Schnebly hill road is closed, I also like playing on FR535, but I think that's closed too.

Apache looks peaceful. I'm so used to seeing it with all the tourists, and the dualies pulling cigarette boats!

I left off the pictures of the people who do not know trail manners (those going up have right of way). It was actually pretty busy up untill about Apache lake. Had a few people almost hit us driving way to fast and not pulling aside. Also was stuck behind 2 out of state mini vans and a mustang for a good bit. Not sure how they crossed the low water bridge in tortilla flat, it was pretty deep from all the rain.

We actually took one of the side road detours down to Apache lake to let it thin out a bit. However, the way back was much less traffic.

We took 89a into Sedona, was planning to check FR535. It was closed also, but 89a was fun down. Completely snow covered. We ate in Sedona then headed home. However, we couldn't resist getting off the highway and took a detour down the New River Trail. Lots of mud. I now despise mud after spending an hour getting it out of all the books and crannies.

Only an hour? This was halfway through the day. Cost me $14 at the self service car wash just to get it clean enough to get home. And then, I spent about 2 hours getting the mud out of the cracks with my own pressure washer.

The front fender is hollow and mud goes up inside through the trailing edge. Clean up the Jeep, park it in the garage, and you'll have a 50/50 chance that a glob of mud will fall out of that cavity.

Looks like you had an awesome time. I'm not familiar with New River Trail but looks muddy like everything else up that way! Beautiful day, too! I was afraid that FR535 was going to be closed. I think it gets way too much traffic, then during the winter months, the Forrest Service is trying to keep it from getting too rutted. Which I believe is true for Schnebly hill and a host of others.

If you know of any good self-service washes from New River on down, towards perhaps 100, that would be great. I have to head down towards Thomas, and 68th street to get mine washed @ 11 - 15 bucks, then I take it to the "Thumb" afterward for another 18 dollars full-service wash. Expensive, offroading that is.. :)

Yeah, this thing was not designed for mud, or at least cleaning up after mud. Mine was not near as muddy as yours, but im sure I missed a lot. I really want some good side steps now. Anything to stop the front tires from throwing mud down the side like it does. It built up on the door handles, and so much on the rear fender you could not open the doors. Of course my daughter had to use the restroom with it covered, so that was fun. Luckely we were by new River so we were able to clean it off some in the water.

On a side note, i was very impressed with the K02 in everything we put them through from ice, deep snow, sand and lots of mud. If they did not throw rocks so darn bad they would be mu dream tire. (But boy oh boy do they throw rocks. ) Already need a paint pen.

After watching the Border Patrol guys go flying by me with KM3 tires on their pick-ups, I wasn't so impressed with the mud capabilities of the KO2 tires. They seemed to fill up too easily and convert into a slick. On a brighter side, I've got 10K miles on my KO2s and they don't seem to hold as many rocks as when they were new. Still throw rocks, but at a reduced rate.

I, like a number of others on the forum, have covered their hinges with the 3M clear coat. I cut my own, but one of our sponsors sells a more intricately cut set. Or, there are some hard plastic hinge covers.

Luckily I have a wash alongside my house. When the Jeep is really muddy, I park it in the street directly in front of the wash. A pressure washer, a soap cannon, and all is good again.

I also live far enough out that we have a Circle K self serve car wash a couple of miles from my house. Guys run the trails and stop there to de-mud their vehicles. I've seen it so bad that it looks like a dirt floor in the bays. The manager doesn't seem to complain, it gets cleaned out regularly. So, if you find one, treasure it. We've got a few nearby that are so clean you almost want to wash the jeep before going there.
