So my Jeep has 7484 miles on it and everything with the stereo has been food. I always plug my iPhone up and use apply CarPlay for navigation and music. I never use regular radio, Bluetooth, or satellite radio. I get in today and start driving and it started out okay but then all the sudden my Music starts freezing and skipping. Then when you would select something on CarPlay it would take like 10 seconds for it to go through. When I unplug my phone everything goes back to working normally. I can Bluetooth my phone to the stereo and music plays fine. Regular radio plays fine. Then when I plug my phone back in and try CarPlay it starts freezing. Has anyone had this issue before?

EDIT: So I found out that it is an issue with the USB port itself. I always use the USB port inside the console cause I donā€™t care for the cord to be plugged into the front port all the time. If I plug my iPhone into the console USB port then Apple CarPlay messes up if I plug a galaxy s9 then android auto freezes and acts up. If I plug it into usb 1 on the front then it works properly.

Same here! I found out that the one in the console is finicky ..sometimes works and sometimes it just stops working. There was a post on here of a guy who had his looked at and he noticed that the light inside the console would flicker...turned out the wiring was preventing solid connection of usb and light. Was like a loose wire that delivered the power.

Wow Iā€™m glad Iā€™m not the only one! The thing is tho is that it recognizes whatever I plug into it every time...it never disconnects. Itā€™s just causing CarPlay AND android auto to freeze and act wonky.

If there are no Uconnect updates, might try:
  • Checking for any iOS updates.
  • Replacing your Lightning cable.
  • Last resort backup, wipe, restore iOS.
CarPlay is using your head unit display as a second display, not sure iOS freezes can be traced back to the head unit...Iā€™m not an expert by any means.

I thought about doing this until I tried it with a Samsung galaxy 9. That uses a totally different cable than an iphone. I pretty much narrowed it down to the port because the android phone did the exact same thing on android auto that the iPhone did on Apple CarPlay. Both phones work perfectly in the #1 port (front).

This just started happening to me. I'll be driving along with my phone plugged into USB 2 and then it loses connection and if i try to press play on the phone itself, audio comes out of the phone speakers, even though it's still plugged in. If I plug the same setup into USB1 (dash), it works fine- no issues. Has anyone taken the console apart and inspected the USB 2 connections? the outlet itself seems a bit loose in the bezel. I may try to take a look at it when I get a chance.

I've been to my dealer three times for the same thing. USB1 works perfect so I know it's not a phone/ios/cable/radio issue. They updated software/reset the first visit. The second visit resulted in them deciding to order a new USB2 port. The third visit was installing the new USB2 port. Nothing has changed. I'm waiting for my next other need to go in about it again. Pretty sure it's got to be one of the two media hubs when looking at the wiring diagram.

Update: USB2 died again on the way home from work This morning. tried plugging into USB1 and it wouldn't read. I could switch screens on the Radio, and it would work (Radio, Satellite, HVAC), but Car play/ Media would not register any changes. I couldn't pair Bluetooth because my new phone hadn't been paired with my UConnect yet (as I mainly use car play). It seemed to work fine when I came out to go to work this afternoon,.

For anyone who has had this happen- what was the fix? Other than pulling the fuse, and resetting the UConnect unit, because that seems to be treating the symptom. It seems like there is an issue with the software/ Connection to the media/USB ports. I remember someone mentioning a "Media Hub" issue- did that resolve this problem?

Thanks in advance.

Anyone ever find a definitive fix for this? I have 21 with 400 miles on it, and I have this exact same issue.
