Hey guys just a quick question regarding 35s with a wider tire, anyone running this size for snow? Ko2s, duratracs, or any other snowflake rated tire in this size? Do you have any issues? Is it worse , do you slide? I'm running 275/70/r18 ko2s and did a lift, i Wana get bigger tires, probably ko2s or kumho at51 since their snowflake rated. I didn't have any issues with my ko2s but smaller size, so I'm curious on how the bigger tire will handle

I have KO2's. Last year, I found them a little squirrelly in the slush and on slick pavement. I've gone to a straight snow tire for the winter here in western NY.

I have had Falken Wildpeak AT3 on two Jeep’s now they worked great year round quiet great in snow. Recently put on a set of Kenda Klever R/T in a 35/10.50/17 on a 2019 wrangler JLU. Recommended by a friend who runs them on a Taco.

I’ve had KO2 BFGs and they beat most things but they still aren’t a dedicated snow/ice tire. And the wider you go, the more squirrely they get on snow and ice. Currently for winter I’m running dedicated winter tires (Cooper Discoverer M&S) and just have them in a different set of wheels. But if you want one tire to do all seasons OK, the KO2 gets my vote.

Actually, we were out playing in the snow. I figure you’re not having fun if you’re not exploring the Jeep’s capabilities.

I agree about your concerns of wider tires though. You might consider 285/75. They are considerably narrower than 35s, but only about 0.5 inch smaller in diameter.

Mike, I've been reading as many reviews as I can for that tire and they've really got some high marks from almost everyone that I've read.

That size has peaked my interest as I want a 35 for my next set but don't think I need a 12.5 width, and with my thin fender kit keeping the tire edge closer to the body seems like a good plan :) Should still get decent tread contact when airing down for rocky trails too :)

From all I've read they aren't a 3peak snow rated but seem to be geared for good cold weather performance. They have plenty of siping throughout the tread block and the reviews I've been reading say they've been performing well in the wet & the snow.

Another plus in that 35x10.5 size is it's a D-rated vs. all the other Klever R/Ts that are E-rated. Nice that they still have 3ply sidewalls and good sidewall biters. They are a bit on the heavy side at 67lbs, but better than the 35x12.5s @ 73!

Look forward to hearing what you have to say about them, and do you have more pics of them on your Jeep, like straight down the side??

Thanks!

315/70/17 KO2's on stock wheels on mine. They do just fine in the snow. I've no complaints. Great compromise across the board, really.

That's when I found mine a little squirrelly. In conditions where I don't think I needed it, I had to shift to 4W drive to be comfortable.

Living in an area where we get a lot of snow I've tried a verity of tires on snow covered roads. One thing I learned quickly was that the wider the tire is, the worse it handles winter conditions.
That's not to say you can't get one that's capable (I'm looking at you Duratrac, maybe the best tires I've ever owned). That said if you get a narrower version of the same tire it will handle winter roads even better.
Currently, I'm running 285/75/17, which are considered a 34" tire. Don't get hung up on the numbers though. They're 33.9" diameter whereas the "35's" (315/70/17) I had on my truck were 34.5" diameter. At only 1/2" difference it wasn't worth the reduced winter traction and increased weight of the extra 1" of width just to say I had 35's. Frankly, no one ever asks anyway.
If you really want 35's though, you can get them in narrower treads, but the selection is limited.

BFG makes a KO2 in 34x10.5x17. I think that would be a great size, being 2" narrower than the 35's.

My 315's when aired to 37psi actually have a narrow contact patch, due to the 7.5" wide rim. So they function as much more narrow than they look.

I had 255/80/17 KM2's on my JK for a good while. The mud tread didn't help, but they were real pizza cutters. If that were an AT tread, they would have been fantastic. The weren't actually terrible, but there just isn't much siping on the KM2.

I run Toyo open country ATII. Haven’t had snow yet to try them but they are real good in rain. I could just about floor it with no slipping and it’s not squirmy at all. I’d guess they’ll do just fine in the snow with the tread pattern. 35x12.5x17.

Dominic,

I'm running the Goodyear Duratrac All-Terrain 35x12.5x17's and really am enjoying their performance. They have the 3 Peak Rating and so far have been great in the rain, mud and snow of northern Colorado.

I've also put a lot of off-road mileage on these puppies aired down to 15psi. While their 'E' Load rating is certainly not everyone's favorite ride, I really do appreciate the extra durability especially off-road. On-road, I typically ride them at 38psi, that's the sweet spot for the chalk test. However, in the winter with the deeper snow, 32psi is my magic value.

I've got about 15K on my current set, rotated 3 times (all 5 wheels), and they work just like they had new. I do have chains (required in the Colorado high country) but find I only need them due to the law on the roads where chain inspection is mandatory specifically due to conditions. Typically I-70 and the busier state roads.

Otherwise never a problem (so far). I'm certainly not a hot-rod with my lifted Sport but I don't granny around in it either. But I never have any anxiety going out in my rig in any weather.

Lastly, as far as their width, I also mounted these on -12mm offset wheels. With the 4.5 in backspacing I do have a little wider stance than most. While a narrower tire may work better and be a more pin-point solution within the most extreme conditions, I believe I've found the correct balance for both on/off-road, summer/winter and overall comfort/performance ride and handling.

Highly recommend them for anyone looking for the nearly do anything, go anywhere all purpose tire.

Jay
