I took mine out a year ago. I put 8 stainless pins in to make hanging the doors back on easier.

I got them on eBay under $20 for 8 pcs as I recall. Do a search for:
Wrangler door hinge pin guides

Haven't re-installed mine since the first time I took the doors off in July 2019. No issues, just spray a little dry lube in there every now and then.
As for getting doors stolen - riddle me this, how are you going to remove the doors with them closed and locked?
If a thief breaks into the vehicle, they can just unlock the doors...

I had a 2013 JKU that I left them off for a few years (in Colorado Springs, CO). Eventually, doors started to make weird noises when opening and closing... Even started to have issues removing the doors during the summer. I was getting significant corrosion from the salt solution they were applying to the roads in the winter.

They can also show up with a TORX 50 and remove the bolt, break into vehicle, unlock the doors and take them. If they want them they will have them.
Speaking of that does anyone know anything about locking hinge pins to help protect your half doors? Heard that was a thing.

When I rolled my JK, I was sitting upside down in it when someone opened my door to help me out. The door fell, because the bolts were out, and was hanging there by the electrical wire, which he couldnā€™t separate in the heat of the moment. So it hung there in the way of me getting out. Throw one bolt back in at least. Ya never know whatā€™s gonna happen. I certainly wasnā€™t planning on rolling my Jeep that day. BTW, my wife, daughter and I were fine. The Jeep protected us.

Both in my JK and Jl I leave off the door bolts all year. I've never had an issue.
