Anyone local to Springfield MA - look at a TJ 4Sale

I am looking at a TJ for sale in Springfield MA but I’m in Ohio. I would hate to travel that far and then find out that the frame is junk.

If anyone is local, would you mind looking at the Jeep to see if it’s even worth anything. I can walk you through the areas that typically rot.

I drove nearly 5 hours to look at a TJ R in excellent condition and no problems ran great.

I get there and I drive out on the street and got DW so bad I could drive over 10 mph, so I turned around and went back.

OK, DW, Yea, sure I can FIX THAT!

Jeep had been hit in the spare tire and it pushed in the tailgate. The tailgate was zip-tied closed. The guy said he forgot to mention that. Seats were worn out, Jeep stunk from moisture I think he had got it wet and was trying to dump it. He wanted $19k for it. Under the hood lots of rust...

Make sure you find someone to go take a deep dive on that Jeep...

I would agree. It is significantly cheaper than what you were looking at. Which has me partly concerned.

Body looks really good. Interior good. Engine bay looks good. Frame has what looks like a coating on it that looks oily. Worried that I can’t see behind the coatings. I would prefer paint or straight rust so I can better understand what’s going on. The parts of the frame that typically rust I am concerned look too good…

It is high miles which I think is better than a low miles one that sat around.

I’ll talk to the dealer tomorrow on a call vs email but still hoping to get a second hand opinion that would have no skin in the game vs a used car sales guy…

I got a call from a guy in Maine and I was in Dallas. There was a 54 Corvette for sale in Dallas and he knew of me in the Corvette world and asked if I check out that 54 Corvette and tells him if I thought he could drive it back to Maine thru Florida. He offered me $200 bucks and I turned that down and said I would do it for free.

I went over and did a deep dive and called him and said: YES I believe it will make the trip. So he and his wife flew in, I picked them up at the airport and we over and he bought it.

He called about a month later and told me they had been on the road, went to Disneyland, and had a great time driving that Corvette home over a month-long vacation. He was going to take it down to the nuts and bolts and restore it to like new. He said you sure know your cars....NO! I KNOW Corvettes!

A few years later I got a mail from him with a picture getting the GOLD award at the Carlise Corvette National Show...Getting GOLD is NOT EASY!

So YES you can get a deal...
