Anyone know what the small plastic half-sphere bubble on the top left center of the dashboard is for

My auto-headlights work perfectly. When entering and exiting a tunnel, they turn on and off in a very reasonable amount of time. How nice of you to bash something as a "useless piece of junk" when yours is clearly malfunctioning.

Im guessing since his is malfunctioning, it is, indeed, a useless piece of junk to him.

I've never once used the auto setting. I simply turn the headlight knob 2 clicks to the right to them on when needed and 2 clicks back left to turn them off. Not once did I ever think it arduous enough to have additional electronics and sensors to attempt to do this for me. What next, self driving cars??

Yes I'm being facetious. I didn't think there was much else to contribute since others have already pointed out it is the light sensor. Carry on.

Maybe try another dealer.
