The Mrs. and I are going back to Moab arriving late on 12/30 and leaving early on 1/9.

We've already run Hell's Revenge, Fins n Things, Top of the World and Poison Spider and are looking to hit some new trails. We will def do Fins again and are thinking of Moab Rim but that trail is no joke and we would like to buddy up for a ride if anyone is interested. Also open to ideas for other trail rides.

PM if you are interested to set up a meet while we are there.

I'm not sure of our schedule yet (we're winging it), but we may be there around the beginning of that time. This morning's discussion is that we'll leave So Cal Dec 20, go to New Mexico, work our way up to Colorado, and may arrive in Moab some time around New Years - could be days before or after. At the latest, we'd depart Moab on 1/4. I've ridden mountain bikes there a lot, but never wheeled there.

Sounds great, keep me posted. Have you off roaded before? The Jeep we will be bringing is my wife's, it's a Saharicon... A Sahara that now sits on D44s with lockers. It also has a budget boost 2" lift, 33s w/ KO2s, discos and a winch so we are very trail ready.

I'm relatively new to wheeling the JL (though I did some desert pounding a few weeks ago), but not new to wheeling. Been beating up a ARB locked Samurai on 31s for the past few years. I think that the Samurai is more capable than my JL, but time will tell.

My JLUR has 3.5" lift on 37s and fairly well equipped and also a fair amount of recovery gear on board, including winch. I just got it in September, so I still have some work to do.

Ughhhhh, great... 3.5" and 37s, exactly what the Mrs. wants, I'm never going to hear the end of it if you wheel with us :)
Did you re-gear to 4.88s or keep the 4.10s. Auto? Stick?
those little Samurais are sick.

I'm working out my schedule now, plan to go to Grand Junction CO, and explore the area including Moab sometime around the end of this year, or early next year. If it ends up being in January I'll post out here.

I have the 8-speed. I just regeared with 5.13s. This weekend I'll be doing my 500 mile fluid replacement, and I'll be swapping in rear chromo Dana axle shafts. I trussed the front axle and installed RCVs while I had it apart.

Many under-estimate Samurais. Being so lightweight, it's amazing what they can do. I swapped in a 1.6 16v engine, so it can move pretty well. The downside (and upside?) is that since they're relatively cheap, so I do stupid things with it. Consequences aren't as high as on the JL. Maintenance work is easy - just lay it over on its side and accessing the stuff on the bottom is so much easier.

Dang it sounds like you're one of those guys we could learn a thing or to from. I have a friend like that around here too.
