Probably means since automakers need to achieve a fleetwide average gas usage of 40.4 mpg by 2026 that Jeep might be the first to do it by 2022?
Some Twitter folks were also suggesting 40.4 inches of water fording and pointed out the large tires on the Jeep with the lake in the background.

That’s a possibility as well. With 40in+ tires, hope they put a pair of HD Dana’s under the cars….not sure how long Dana 44’s would last under warranty with 40in+ tires.

A lot of the other guesses are fun, but I think this is correct. 40.4 is such a specific number. I wouldn't be shocked if they announced multiple models getting PHEV variants in 2022.

I wish it was more/better ecodiesels but EV is just too popular right now.
