Because mine sure as hell did! It melted so bad and messed up the entire bracket that was installed in the rear bumper. Jeep replaced it under warranty, thankfully. However, after getting it repaired, it did it again!

The service guy at the dealership said that there's a small circuit board attached to the rear left break light that shorted out and caused the melt the first time. I think it did it again. Probably because they installed the same exact part.

I'm gonna take it back it to get it fixed, but I wanted to see if anyone else has had this issue.

@Windycityjeep

Every time I see someone posting such a comment that spews this "50k+" type coment , I have to LOL.

And you don't think such an issue can't / shouldn't / couldn't happen with any vehicle regardless of what it costs.

Was just thinking about the "light" in this thread. Is it a light or a reflector? I have never seen the ones on my 2dr. JL Rubi, (2 on the rear) light up. I can not see any wires going to them but view in that area is minimal. SO, red reflectors or actual working lights?

@TXJeepScientist

I assumed that since he posted in the JL forum and it looks like a JL rear (I think) that it was a 2018 JL.

So, does yours have a reflector or working light. My 2018 JL with LED package has a reflector (2) in those positions on the bumper. I just went and looked close and I see no wires going to them.

@Dreadnought_Leviathan

I just crawled under my 2dr Rubi and they are definitely just reflectors. I wonder if there is any chance that his safety sensors are heating up. The license light is LED so that won't get hot.

Geeez, just one more bit of proof that you need to scrutinize what you read on a forum. When I initially responded / saw that thread a few days ago, it just did not click... until today when it clicked and I said huh............

As I thought a friggin reflector (2). Bet it was the sensor on that side that fried the reflector and the OP of that post just misunderstood what the tech told him OR the tech blew dark smoke up his ass in regard to how it got melted.

Thanks for crawling under there and checking!!!!!! Would do the same for you.

I don't have a jeep yet. I've been on the forums looking at the problems with the Wranglers. I've been interested in the 2018 JLUR because Jeep put a lot of thought into the upgrades. But Jeep's quality control has had me sitting on the fence.

I wish you the best in getting your problem resolved. It must be frustrating with a new vehicle.
