Don't really need a 7 pin trailer plug. That's what the Cummins is for.

Would like to wire up a simple 4 pin trailer light harness.

Did a brief search and found multiple <20 dollar setups for a JK but nothing I could find for a JL.

I could splice/solder my own plug in easy enough but:

I don't know what wires I'm looking for

and

Am concerned it may effect some new wiz bang computer bulb monitoring system I am not aware of.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Go to etrailer and get the powered 4 way kit. It is very simple to install and protects the vehicles wiring from the load ofnthe trailer lights.

Curt makes a plug and play harness. Take off the taillights, plug the harness in place and run a power lead to the battery. Just did mine yesterday. Hardest part of the installation was zip tying the wire to frame from the rear to the front/battery.

I recently installed the MOPAR wiring, yes it more expensive but I really liked the quality. Just make sure you get the new version of the kit as it does not require dissembling your interior (part number 82216359AA). It was a pretty straight forward ordeal, you will need a rivet tool and some fender clips (if you decide to remove the fender liner as the instructions suggest, though I was able to do the installation without removing it). As others mentioned, the hardest part is crawling under your jeep to zip tie the harness.
