Anybody using a recovery ring on a soft shackle instead of a snatchblock, how well does it work? Does the winch line track well enough in the recovery ring at ordinary winching speed?

Never thought about recovery gear weight before until I picked up my gear bag the other day. Snatchblocks are a major offender--heavy and seldom used. So if a light aluminum recovery ring on a soft shackle means I can leave a big steel snatchblock at home, then that lightens up the gear bag. Especially because I need to add a sand-anchor.

Just curious because it's a method that's new to me. Probably only became a thing once people started getting creative with soft shackles.

I am contemplating the same thing. Replaced the steel line in my winch with synthetic. Have seen these online and considering purchasing one, too.

Factor 55 offers a discount for veterans and first responders. Northridge 4x4 and other forum sponsors offer a forum discount. Not a lot but it helps. Plus they are made in USA.
