I hear the JLUS doesnt have sound deadening added like the Sahara/Rubicon and the interior floor carpet just sits on metal. I have a hardtop and am upgrading the sound system and wondered if it would help to add below the carpet something like Noico butyl sound deadener + Noico liner to reduce noise?
Also, when I get above 50mph, hearing wind noise up front gets significant. Has anybody added additional weather stripping/seals to beef up the seal on windshield and where the freedom tops meet the roll bars? I get that it's a jeep and not a Lexus...I'm curious about the results as I'm considering this as a DIY project. Thanks!

I wonder if the main cause is the windshield itself not being insulated enough or the rubber gaskets not being well sealed?

That’s what I think too. I’m gonna take a look into the windshield.

As far as the freedom panels, when I first got my Jeep, I had a lot of whistling coming from the tops. I realized that they weren't installed correctly. I found that the white posts weren't going in all the way because the fit is too tight. I found that if I stand on a small ladder and press down from the top in the front they will go down farther into the black ring, then I lock the lever. If you look up at the white posts and you can see white above the black ring and between the "nut", then they aren't deep enough.

I have removed my carpet (because I got stuck in a storm and flooded....) and kept it out for now. I can take a pic later tonight of the floorpan if you'd like. It does seem to have sound deadening in some areas but definitely not all over. I would be interested to see the floor of a Rubi or Sahara to compare.

I would greatly appreciate pics of the floor without carpet in any area you can get pics. Are you considering sound deadening your since you already have the carpet out?

I still haven't decided if I'm just putting the carpet back in, rhino lining it, buying bedtred or running like this! Sound deadening doesn't appeal to me since I don't really notice much noise. But I try not to have the top on that much either!

I'm more concerned about water damage and or easy clean up.

I dont really see the point.. Mosdt of the noise you hear is wind noise from the flat windshield on the freeway. Anecdotally I used some Senheiser noise cancelling headphones on a recent 8 hour road trip between Tucson and LA and it worked awesome.... At 75 on the interstate it gets quite loud.

The point is to reduce the windnoise so you dont feel the need to wear illegal noise canceling headphones on road trips.

But the noise comes from the roof and windshield. I suppose you could dynamat the windshield and roof.

Have you considered going with hotheads headliner? Maybe that will reduce windnoise in the roof area?
I just bought 72 sq ft of Noico 80mil butyl sound deadener to do the floor/sides and some on doors. Hopefully, it helps some.

Yes, Im thinking of doing maybe hot heads. I am waiting on more designs to come out to have more choices.
What I really want to know is where the noise is coming from. I know everybody says is normal for wranglers but I really think there is a flaw somewhere in there.

@stuckinohio, can you provide outside side-shots of the fronts of your panels once you've secured them using the method described?

I can, but I'm not sure when I'm removing the bikini top. Might be a little while.
