Regardless of driving practices or habits, flying rocks will happen. This glass is shit...period. I've had so many other vehicles that have been fine with rock hits or even chips and the integrity of that glass was good until the day i got rid of that vehicle....with the rock chips still in them, unrepaired. I'm not arguing or counter-pointing anyone on here.....i'm giving my opinion, which seems to line up with 100s of other opinions/experiences. I dont know much about the glass chosen for these vehicles, but it sucks. FCA honestly should do something about it AND backpay for lost damages at this point.

I've had wranglers in the past that came with better glass and sustained chips......this one just seems to be brittle.

I replaced my 1st one on day 7 of ownership and that sucks, BUT these guys that have had to replace 4 or multiple, i feel bad for...that's called a design error, unless it's a highly coincidental/bad choice every time it happens.

No, I wouldn't actually. I have no chips and no cracks on my windshield yet. My trick? Don't tailgate and don't speed. Like my TJ before it, my JL will throw rocks all over itself with the factory falken wildpeaks, including throwing rocks onto the hood and the roof. The reports of "it just cracked for no reason" I suspect there was either already a chip and heat/cold caused the crack or they took a rock off of their own tire. While you can't prevent all impacts to your windshield simply not tailgating and slowing down on gravel roads does a tremendous amount to help. If you don't want to do either of those things, lower the windshield.

There is a chance that a batch of bad glass made it into some vehicles, it happens (sunroofs go off with a bang from time to time as they heat up) but it's not something I have any concerns about. If mine breaks, I'll put a new on in. It's a windshield, it's basically a wear item.
A windshield is a wear item?
That’s a novel idea. You mean like brakes, tires, shocks, batteries, and filters?
Windshields just wear out?
Huh. Who knew.

$0 comprehensive or separate glass insurance is a friend. Four busted windshields in my JK w/ 60k miles and just crossed 35k miles and a little over a year with the JL and replaced the windshield twice. Once at 1500 miles and the other at 33k. Safelite is quick and painless plus USAA makes it easy to claim...When you have a damn near vertical windshield, things happen... Seems like mostly non previous Jeep owners complaining though...Like Thanos, its inevitable...

It’s a very costly friend, though. You ain’t getting those windshields for free.

$165 a year difference between $0 and $500 deductible. That’s for both the JK an JL combined

~$2000 difference per year between full-boat coverage and just liability/uninsured motorist.

50 years=$100,000.

I’m a careful, safe driver. Been in a couple of wrecks, but both were the other driver’s fault.

I like that $100k in my pocket. You like “free” windshields.

Whatever.

Hahahahaha

And one wreck and your savings goes out the window... my math...2 windows on average a year = ~ $900 - 165 = $735 annual savings or by your standards $36,000 of insurance money which covers 10+ years of full coverage lol.

If the windshield are so fragile why is it in all the JL wreck pictures I've seen in this forum including JL's running into other vehicles at 60 mph are all those windshields intact?

LoL first time Jeep owner bitching about a known, common Jeep issue using their big boy words... Proof when your 50 year savings plan fails the logic test you can always rely on calling people names... Your seem to be somewhat of a troll anyway so I'll let it die here...

Gorilla Glass is still not out yet, I'd recommend getting a install from Henderson glass if you can. They are a Michigan based company that offers a warranty on their glass that covers unlimited chips and one free windshield including labor and install for an extra 50 dollars. I got my aftermarket one done for $386 total, including the warranty.

Just got a call from Jeep, and they are going to replace my windshield at no cost to me. The Jeep cares specialist that handled my case is excellent. The dealership here where I live is absolutely awful.

Why are they replacing it at no cost to you? What was wrong with the windshield?
