Just filed a complaint with NHTSA, and I encourage others to do so too. I've only had my Jeep since yesterday and those alerts are already irritating (I know- first world problems). What an idiotic implementation of an idea that really wasn't that great to begin with. Kinda pissed that the only way around it is to buy a gadget that could- in theory- void the warranty.

There are 3 issues at play here. The first is the issue with getting alerts for areas that are nowhere near your current location. This is a SiriusXM issue. The second issue is the having to click the button to clear the alert. This is a Jeep issue as my wife's Cherokee with the prior version of UConnect does not require clicking a button...the alert eventually goes away on its own. The last issue is that you cannot disable the alerts without disabling all of the SiriusXM TravelLink...this, too, would seem to be a UConnect implementation issue but I could be wrong.

FWIW, I just opened a online chat on SiriusXM radio site regarding this issue. Calling the alerts "undesired and dangerously distracting", I asked for them to be disabled my JLUR radio. Five minutes and was told they have been disabled.

Time will tell.

Keep us posted...you'll also need to check if you still are able to use the other TravelLInk features like traffic and weather.

Absolutely. FWIW, I have a family subscription with four vehicles using XMRadio and none of us use the TravelLink features so would be okay if they end up disabling it. Regardless, I will report back what happens next.

Good news. It has been crazy windy these past couple days with numerous weather warnings flashing on my JLUR screen. Since my online chat with XMradio, I am happy to report the weather warnings have stopped. And while I do not use the TravelLink, it appears those features are still active. Looks like a call or chat with XMradio is the easiest and least costly solution to this problem. Cheers.

Just tried getting the alerts disabled via chat. Here was their eventual reply:

"I will help you with our technical team's contact details, who can help you with the possible trouble shootings in order to adjust the radio setting so that you won't such unwanted notifications, you can able to access then only on your requirement.
Please contact Product Support at 866-463-5326. Their working hours are 08.00 AM – 10.00 PM EST Monday – Saturday and from 08.00 AM – 08.00 PM EST on Sundays."

When they disabled the alerts for you, did they also say TravelLink "needed" to get disabled for them to do that? I'm wondering whether that service will stop working for you eventually.

They did not. The TravelLink is still working.

Just called the number. Since the person who picked up was clueless and tried to tell me to call UConnect instead, I told her this was definitely a SiriusXM issue and that another Jeep owner was able to call them and get the alerts removed. She then transferred me to an "account specialist," whom I asked to remove the weather alert service from TravelLink, with which it's bundled. Made sure to tell them that I'd like to keep the TravelLink service and get credited for the remainder of the weather alert service to my account. Was told they can't cancel it because it's part of a free trial via the dealer and it needed to get escalated to their "back office." The back office would call me back at my number in 3-5 business days. I asked to also get emailed in case I'm in a meeting and can't pick up.

Sorry to report weather alerts returned recently. That success was short lived. Plan to turn off using JL Flashcal update.

That's what I was afraid off. I never did get a callback from their "back office" and sort of forgot about it cause the weather got nicer around here, which results in less alerts anyhow. I guess the only option is to drop the TravelLink service altogether. I don't really see any benefit to it beyond gas prices along your route. All that is also available on any cell phone.

^only time I ever use it is for the gas prices but we shouldn't have to disable something to get this fixed.
