So today I was looking for a lost key and looked underneath my passenger seat and saw this unsecured white foam pad that was stapled to the rear of the carpet section that runs from underneath the seat up to the passenger footwell. It also looks like there is a drainage "type" oval hole in the carpet that sat right above the pin that holds the carpet below it in place.

Because it's not really secured strongly I thought maybe it was just part of the delivery process... they just didn't remove it but what gets me is that, even if I removed the white foam pad, the 2 carpet sections still would not attach...

Has anyone looked underneath your passenger seat to see if they have something similar to this? I've looked at YouTube videos about removing interiors and I can't see anything that looks like mine.

As always thank you very much, Ed

Replaced all of the carpeting in my JLUR with Armorlite - had no white foam padding as you describe.

Still no photos.

The oval hole near the pin sounds like the hole for the drain plug.

Phew, that was hard... my iphone was taking huge .DNG instead of more compact .JPG

Anyway -

- 1st pic is how it looks now. The oval "plug" carpet lying directly on top of pinned carpet below. Up close!

- 2nd is what it looks like under pic #1. You can see the foam (which is mearly stapled to the upper carpet with oval insert) and the bottom carpet which is attached to the carpet "peg".

- 3rd is staight shot under seat (you can see the heater outlet). Doesn't really show much but I was trying to depict the way that the carpets don't lie on top of each other properly

My initial thought was that this was a part of the factory packaging for delivery that wasn't removed by the dealer but now I'm questioning why the oval plug is in the carpet with the white foam...

Thanks all! Ed

The picture with the foam was really dark so I tried to lighten it up a better contrast that's about all I know how to do though lol.

I also recently pulled all my carpet to replace with Armorlite, don't remember seeing anything like that.

Thank you kindly for your feedback… So I'm going to assume it was just something that was included in the shipping process and should probably have been removed before delivery… Have a great weekend and thanks!

Not sure, though your assumption sounds reasonable.

We still have the carpet, earlier installed our GMRS unit under the front passenger seat and couldn't recall whether there was foam or not. Here are a couple shots just taken this evening. We didn't tear anything out, just added some wiring and the radio.

It may be noteworthy that ours has the back piece atop the front? And there is no foam under the front piece either. Also, our front piece has an oval; the rear piece is round and locks both pieces down.

Yours are installed backwards. Slip the piece with the foam down under the other.

Bruce thank you very much for your reply and the excellent pictures they are very helpful and your description of the way the carpets are lying is great.

mwilk012 - I will do that but it would be not really possible without ripping that foam piece out like I said it only seems to be attached by like a staple so I don't think it's supposed to be there when it's delivered to the customer… Would you agree with that?

Either way, I will update this thread with pictures once I get something figured out… It's so weird that sometimes I, and people like me, get hung up on the smallest details that are completely irrelevant but oh well guess that means the Jeep is running good :)
