I am considering adding towing capabilities using after market parts, but am worried I may regret tapping into the taillights instead of a getting a full wiring job. I bought my JLU off a dealer lot, since it had everything I wanted except the Tow Package. I figured I'd add it later, but the local dealers want $650-700 in labor to run the full wiring harness to the front, not including the cost of harness or hitch receiver. I am considering saving money by using the Curt 5640 4 pin harness https://www.curtmfg.com/part/56407 and tapping into the taillights, but am worried about potential issues. The full wiring job is likely above my skill grade, and the dealer is warning me not to do the taillight plug but won't say why. Has anybody used aftermarket taillight plug-and-plays and regretted it? If so, why? Many thanks in advance JLWF members.

Interesting @csjlu. I recently purchased this Curt wiring harness for my flat tow purposes and will install it in the next two weeks. It looks different than the one you show but has all the electronics in it (dildoes, etc.). https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B085JMHY74/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I will let you know my outcome. Waiting for the baseplate to install, which should be here by this weekend.

My hitch and wiring is for a road trip to Nashvegas, ironically. Many thanks in advance. Go Preds! And nice ride!
