I'm looking at some 35s and wheels. But debating on wheels. One is a -12 offset with 4.5 backspace. The other is a +1 with 5 backspace. I've seen on offset conversions difference between the offsets. But how will the 4.5 and 5 backspace play in the looks. Any info and pictures of your set up would be appreciated

If you plan to lift beyond 2.5" go with the -12 offset (some lifts require it).

It depends on the width of wheel.

A 10-inch wide wheel with 4.5-inches of backspace will sit further out when compared to where a 9-inch wide wheel with 4.5-inches of backspace.

So you could have a wheel with a 4.5-inch backspace that sits the same as a 5-inch backspace wheel, towards the outside at least (towards the fender).

With that being said, an 8.5-inch wide wheel with 0 offset (4.75-inch BS) seems to be the sweet spot for the JL axles.

A 9-inch wide wheel with 4.5-inches of backspace will sit 1/2-inch further outwards towards the fender when compared to a 17x9 with 5-inches of backspace. Both will work for you.

To put that into perspective, the 17x9 with 4.5-inches of backspace will sit 3-inches further outwards towards the fender when compared to where the O.E. wheels sit now.
