Within 5-30 minutes of using Android Auto for navigation, the display turns black, but Android Auto button is still visible. Attempting to select Android Auto brings up a message “Smartphone Device Loading…. Please wait or check your phone to complete setup.” Issue occurs w/ both Google Maps & Waze.

Android Auto and both Google Maps and Waze continue w/ no issues on the phone; when Waze is set to use phone speaker, it will continue to provide directions, however display remains black on head unit. While the message states to check the phone to complete setup, there are no messages/setup available on phone.

This only occurs in this vehicle and also occurs w/ my husband's S9 which is running Oreo. Android Auto works fine w/ my 2016 Camaro, 2017 Mustang and my previous 2017 JK with a Pioneer head unit (Chevy & Ford are running the upgraded stock sound systems). Vehicle is driven 60 miles daily, Monday-Friday and I need Android Auto for navigation (road closures from accidents, etc.). Additionally, when I off-road, all parks are 60-90 minutes away and I use navigation.

It was at the dealership for the second time today; their response was that my phone software is incompatible w/ the UConnect software. Since arguing w/ them, I have checked the UConnect site and this is their compatibility list:

Which phones are compatible with Android Auto?
Android Auto works with compatible Android phones with Android 5.0, Lollipop or newer.

I think the dealership answer is BS. They still have my Jeep, since they haven't determined if they are replacing the daytime running light w/ condensation.... I am more than happy to argue w/ them again tomorrow, since the UConnect site does not appear to have any actual specific phone listed as incompatible. Has anyone else experienced this or have any suggestions?

I had the same thing happen. Same phone. It was an update to the Android Auto app. They are migrating to a wifi/bt connection to get away from the wire. I tried all manner of combinations. My conclusion was to get a Garmin for nav, The 2018 and maybe 2019 UConnect systems have no compulsion to match changes with Google Android, so, IMHO, I wanted a nav I could rely on. Google tends to change their s/w at will with little regard for legacy. I get it. I just don't want to rely on it.
