How about this for a curveball? I noticed today doing some more research that Mickey Thompson has an AT in 285/70 but it’s an SL variant instead of load range C.

I thought through the implications of going up in load range rating but I never stopped to even consider going down.

There are a few others like that too. Great for on-road. But off-road, even if you avoid damaging the tire, you can't air down very much because the sidewalls are too soft. Been there, done that. Lost too much ground clearance and the sidewalls were rolling all around and collapsing way too much over pointy rocks.

Photo dump incoming… It was finally time to retire the stock MT2s that came from the factory. I actually really enjoyed those tires (except for the wet traction I mentioned)

@Discount Tire hooked me up with the Falken Wildpeak in 285/70/17 and I’m really enjoying them so far after a few hundred miles or so.

I really couldn’t make up my mind about what tires to go with next and ultimately landed on these or the Toyo RT Trail but with those being a relatively new tire, I decided ultimately to take the extra weight of the Wildpeaks because of their stellar reputation.

I will add that I can definitely feel the difference in weight as these are a full 14 lbs heavier (!) than OEM tires but they are so much better in almost every respect.

Thanks to everyone who had input in this decision. I really appreciate the words of wisdom and advice. Cheers

I really like how these fill out the fenders without really any poke. They basically sit perfectly flush.

Good choice! Plus that tread depth is amazing for an all terrain.

They should give you a ton of mileage. I'm at 25k now with almost 1000 off road. Still plenty of life. I rotate mine (5 tire) every 2500 miles.

Enjoy

Thanks!

The tread depth is nearly as much as the MT2s were at new (20/32nds) which is crazy. I am honestly most excited to try these out in wet conditions as driving around on those MT2s was sketchy when it was raining. I also am interested to see how these perform in muddy conditions because we have a fair bit of that here in AR.

Thank you for the shout out and the opportunity to earn your business! Much appreciated. Looking forward to hearing how the tires perform for you over time.
