Ambient lights missing?

Hi all, I’m the proud new owner of a 2020 JLUR. It’s pretty highly optioned but doesn’t seem to have ambient lighting. The left dimmer wheel does nothing. I read that some 2021s were shipped without the feature due to the chip shortage. Could my 2020 be in the same boat or is it possible that I just don’t have the feature? Thanks!

The only lights it controls on my 21 are the under dash lights that light the floorboard area. The manual mentions door handle lights and possibly something else ( without looking it up), but I get nothing else.

In the cup holders too....but they are useless add on (you can't even see them) unless it's pitch dark out.

I wonder if there is a way to connect auxiliary lights to it, especially if, like me, you don't have the auxiliary electrical bank.

So are they just so dark that they’re literally impossible to see, did my Rubicon not come with the option(?), or did the chip shortage cause mine to be delivered without ambient lighting altogether?

You have to dim the dash lights for them to work. It’s kinda dumb for sure but just lower the right wheel past the “notch”.

What a BRIGHT Idea, upon delivery when I couldn’t get it to work I asked the salesman who was “explaining” the Jeep’s operation to me (I knew more than he did) he didn’t know, asked everyone up to the service mgr, nobody had a clue. Amazing! Read manual repeatedly, got under dash lights to work, now, 8 months later I know the trick albeit Stupid! Thanks.

Mine is already on the notch below the brightest and I have no lighting in the footwells, cup holders or door handles.

Lofty expectations indeed, heck, maybe mine have been working “as designed” all along but they are so worthless I couldn’t see them. Oh well- didn’t miss them anyway.

It very well could be that yours were chopped becaus of shortage but honestly they are a pretty lame attempt for lighting. I wound up installing these last year ...and for $13 you can't go wrong. any color you want and anywhere you want. I chose to put one in the cup holder and one right below the hvac and the other two below in the footwells. Plugs right into the armrest usb.

I meant exterior offroading lights, but I appreciate your response. I suspect the load on offroading lights would far exceed the scroll wheel's rating, and though I'm sure there is an electrical workaround, I'm not an electrician or have any idea what it would be.
