I don’t give them away but I’ve been ducked twice. Made me happy both times and I kept the duck on my dash for a few weeks.

Sure, the ducking may not be for everyone but I appreciate it when it happens and I always feel good when I do it myself. That's the whole point isn't it? To make others feel better in this crazy world we live in? And it seems Jeeps are the only vehicles to do that in. No other vehicle I can think of allows you to demonstrate your kindness/generosity to other strangers other than a Jeep. Aside from the Volkswagen Beetle or Mini Cooper, it's one of few vehicles that truly has a personality.

I also appreciate the origin of ducking culture, although it wasn't started under the best circumstances. Doing some research, I found out it all started at the height of the pandemic when a Jeep owner by the name of Allison Parliament witnessed a woman at a gas station getting assaulted. In order to make the victim feel better, she bought some ducks in the convenient store and left one on their car along with a note saying, "Have a Great Day." Ever since then, it became a viral sensation in the Jeep community. I think that's wonderful. Like I said, not started under the best circumstances but the gesture really goes a long way.

Sorry for the history lesson. I'm confident most of you already know the backstory but it's worth mentioning again, especially to the haters that tend to forget the historical significance of it.
She saw a woman getting assaulted and gave her a duck? Is that really the story? I hope there’s more.

The name of the founder was right, but the story isn’t what I read as to how it started.

Sorry, longer story than I want to post at the moment

So, the people with 50 ducks on their dash are buying the ducks themselves as decorations, right? Or maybe they are gifts? I do not know how one could accumulate that many ducks from total strangers.
Yep I haven't gotten a single duck on my Jeep. I don't know how people get them all but it doesn't seem to be the problem that I thought it would be initially.

This is from Allison Parliament's website, before she passed.

Another article on it from Motor Trend:

The Duck Duck Jeep Beginnings
Duck Duck Jeep was born In Bancroft Ontario to create and spread smiles and combat hate. In July 2020 during the outbreak of COVID-19 raging around the world, fear was high and so was intolerance. I had just entered Ontario with my Alabama plates on my new to me Jeep Wrangler. After an incident in Woodstock, Ontario that left me shaken, my best friend Peter and I headed north to Bancroft to spend time with my cousin Jade.

One afternoon while we were up north we decided to venture into Steadmens, a small shop in the downtown of Bancroft. We were laughing and goofing off when I saw a bag of ducks on a shelf. I got excited and an idea popped into my head and I was up to no good. I could hide the ducks around Peters house before I headed back to Alabama so he could find them and wonder why he decided to be my friend as there were several and it would drive him nuts as they appeared randomly for weeks.

So Jade snuck off to pay for the ducks as Peter would notice I was up to something. Once the ducks were acquired along with some other things, we left the store with me looking totally innocent for maybe 10 seconds. I saw a Jeep when we got back out to the sidewalk and I decided to break into the ducks because inspiration struck I figured leaving a duck on the Jeep in front of us would make the jeep driver laugh, so I grabbed a sharpie I had in my Jeep and wrote on the duck, "Nice Jeep" along with a kind comment before setting it on the mirror which is when I got caught. The Jeeper that caught us laughed and was so entertained that he thought we should put it on social media so I created #duckduckjeep and #duckingjeeps along with a Facebook page that eventually we turned into a group because it started growing at an amazing rate.

The group @ Official Ducking Jeeps Est 2020 is absolutely full of amazing people who, add it their mission to spread kindness. We’ve watched this reach around the world, support those in need and bring the Jeep community together! We rode the wave and turned it into another part of Jeep culture.

NW Jeeper, the story that you quoted in your post is basically the same story that I have read in several places, a few inconsequential detail differences, but still about Allison.

What I haven’t heard of before is that there was any PHYSICAL Assault. As I have read before, Allison had stopped for gas, and another Canadian, unaware of her dual citizenship, Verbally Harassed her for being an “Uncaring American “ trying to Kill people by traveling during the pandemic.

The post that I quoted was the first time that I had heard of a Physical Assault. I Hope that the physical assault part is inaccurate, but many people did react in self righteous and irrational ways, so it was entirely possible.

There wasn't a physical assault it was just a verbal altercation.

The OP said that she (Allison) witnessed a woman being Assaulted. Allison was the woman that was Verbally Harassed.

Assault and Harassment are different things, Assault implies a Physical element.

Being a woman, and not of out of the ordinary physique, from the pictures I have seen of her, Allison may well have been shaken or intimidated by a Man, especially one of a larger physique than herself.

But to my knowledge she was not “Assaulted “, that was the main difference in the story, from what I have heard, the other differences in details were inconsequential

Different states define assault differently, but the incident took place in Canada. Battery is physical without question. Assault can be an attempt to commit battery and can be committed without any physical touching taking place.

I'm not sure why this is important to the overall story unless folks are attempting to diminish whatever happened in some way. None of us were there.

The two major differences were that Allison was the person being harassed, not witnessing someone else being harassed, and if not explicitly stated, it was implied, that it was a physical altercation, which does dramatically change the context of the incident.

Verbal harassment is one thing, and while it shouldn’t happen, it is a very different thing than a physical assault or battery

I commend Allison for trying to bring some measure of kindness to random strangers lives, even if in a small way, like ducking someone’s Jeep.

But accuracy is important, something that seems to have been lost in some very consequential ways, in the last oh 9 or so years

Gotta admit, I just don’t understand how a little piece of plastic/rubber can be so triggering for some

Many of the same people that declare “Don’t Touch My vehicle “ are the same people who take their vehicles on BOH Trails. Yeah, that little duck sittin on the door handle, is soooo much more likely to scratch their paint than a run on the Rubicon 🙄

Then they try to equate placing said duck on their door handle with someone throwing their Mickey D’s garbage in the back of an open pick up 🙄🙄🙄🙄

Seriously, the duck is some random stranger’s attempt to Brighten someone else’s Day, the Asshat throwing their (True) Garbage in the back of someone else’s truck is just Lazy and Entitled, and not having any respect for a random stranger

I do have to feel bad, for those triggered so easily, life must be really rough for them
