Well I also realized that I posted most of the good pics from Sunday also wheeling at the Glaicer, so let's move on to Monday. Monday was just the a small group. We wheeled up in to the mountains north of Wasilla to a lake called Wishbone Lake. We camped at this location last summer. It is equally beautiful in the winter.

Our first water crossing turned into a no go. We would have had to winch out the other side and there was no place we thought that the ice would support the vehicles. Would you drop in and winch out or find and alternative?

So size perspective. The XJ is on 40s with a big lift.

I got to break trail until I could not break trail. The LJ only had 35s. The Toyota and the XJ had 40s and the JK had 37s.

I did not get stuck, but I had to back out as the others went around me. :(

We built a fire at the lake and surprise, cooked moose again.

Another great day of Alaskan Advents.

Tuesday back to the Anchorage Airport for the long series of flights back to Lansing. The Anchorage Airport had several airplanes hung from the ceiling.

I still have to make a couple videos that I believe will be enjoyable. I hope you have enjoyed the adventure and maybe been inspired to travel to Alaska for a wheeling/ camping trip.

Ted, I've got a really dumb question. How do you put the text between the pictures? I've tried a couple different ways without success. It's probably really simple and I'll kick myself when I find out, but can you tell me?
TIA!

If I bulk up load the photo, I insert the photos one at a time. Di the typing and then add the next photo. What I find myself doing the most is I open my photo gallery in a separate window. Then copy the photo and paste it in the thread as I go. I find that the JLwranglerforms site is kind of clunky at best and there are times it is buggy when inserting many photos. I am also using an Apple MacBook so it may be different that using a windows base pc.

Sometimes if the site get buggy, I will use my iPhone to copy the photo and then I can seamlessly post to site using the Mac.

So let's continue on. Being on the glacier lake and by the Knik glacier was just incredible. The ice was about six feet thick.
1740767140516-em.jpg

Just beautiful views in every direction.
1740767189192-na.jpg

On this day. We were close to the edge of the lake and cooked moose over a fire. We spent all afternoon in this area. The ice on the lake was super slippery and very difficult to walk on. I know that the picture does not show this. Most of the people wore a type of spike slip on over their shoes.
1740767272525-ec.jpg

A fellow off roader grabbed this picture of Carla and me hanging out on an iceberg.
1740767482767-9k.jpg

This Jeep was not successful in climbing the iceberg.
1740767547858-pt.jpg

The lighting in the area changed often. Sometimes with in a few minutes as the sun would peek out or the angle of the sun would change how it lit up an iceberg or the area in general. Carla making her way out on to the lake.
1740767667458-74.jpg

The icebergs would change colors from a light blue to a dark blue depending on how it was refilling the light.
1740767756707-ey.jpg

From a different angle of the sun shining on the iceberg instead of through the iceberg.
1740767835398-az.jpg

I did get the LJ dirty on the way out to the glacier.
1740767890706-76.jpg

Early afternoon the aircraft started showing up.
1740767991271-md.jpg

For price point, you can take a helicopter up onto the glacier and do a landing, take a dog sled ride. When I checked into last summer it was about $1750 all said and done for a 2 to 2 1/2 excursion. While it would be cool. I can take a 7 cruise for less than that.
1740768164636-3h.jpg

This is NOT a horrible way to have lunch with friends. Moose tacos with the moose cooked over an open flame while enjoying this view.

Extraordinary for sure! I am constantly in awe of what Mother Nature has put together for us to wonder at. I took an inland passage tour in Alaska before; this is truly a wondrous land! Thanks for sharing the pictures and the journey!!!

@wibornz and @OminousSkitter, thanks so much for the link to this thread, and the memories it kindled in my mind! I had the opportunity to work in Anchorage, on the North Slope, Barrow, Wainwright and Nome for many years from 2006 to 2016. And I made that trip following the Alaskan Railroad to Whittier thru the tunnel many times to explore the Glacier. Simply amazing stuff. And you are correct; natural beauty abounds in every direction in Alaska.

One thing I have not done is 'wheeled Alaska. But it is on my bucket list. Some day I will drive the Alaskan Highway thru Canada in my JL and end up in Anchorage. I hope to meet the Trail Toyz guys and do some 4-wheeling, for sure! Maybe even eat a Moose taco!

I'll even bring/wear my Mukluks, but I won't eat any more Muktuk. I never could develop a taste for that, even though I had to occasionally eat it.

Oh man, the memories! Thanks again for sharing.
