Much has been written about the Dalton Highway. Having traversed many of the world’s most incredible roads, I can confirm this one is the crown jewel of the United States. Long story short, if you have the means, it’s a must for any serious Jeep enthusiast. Name a human emotion and this road will almost certainly draw it out of you. The superlatives are endless. You don’t need the 24mpg I was getting with my 3.0 to make it between fuel stops, the most distant of which are 250 miles apart...it sure does make for serious peace of mind knowing you can skip a station if needed though. The fact that I was over 6000lbs, on 37s, in the cold, with gear for 4 people and a dog while still returning that economy is lunacy. For those of you who also dabble in motorcycle trips, feel free to PM me regarding that piece as I actually spent 600 miles of this 1645 mile trip on a Yamaha WR250R with the JLURD serving as a SAG wagon. At any rate, there is nothing technical about the driving surface of the Dalton on 2 wheels or 4. Its difficulties are largely weather and isolation related, planning for which is essential. If you’re into sampling all the different types of mud in the world, the Dalton has a brand all its own. Xpel is a helluva good idea up here. I have some drone videos I took over Atigun pass and the Yukon river bridge on my IG (PM me for the account if you’re interested). Hopefully the Canadian government lets those of you in the lower 48 back up here soon.

At any rate, here are some pictures from the trip...

ETA: Regarding the JLURD, most of the mods are self-explanatory except the AEV Borah Beadlocks which I added some custom painting to the center caps, Fox 2.5 DSCs, Synergy 3” lift springs (0.5”F/1”R Terraflex spacers needed to get a 2.5-2.75” final lift), Currie front LCAs and rear UCAs, xpel ultimate plus on every painted panel but the roof and tailgate, cerakote underneath. Of these, the Fox 2.5s proved to be the most obviously useful. There is about 80 miles straight of high speed washboard just before Deadhorse that started obviously overheating the shocks on the Yamahas but the remote reservoirs and compression adjusters on the JLURD were just the ticket.

Personally liked the Dempster better, but still an absolutely amazing drive. I'm jealous. Had a trip planned up there again this year, but with the border closing, not going to happen. Planning for it next year!

That's the Ice Road Truckers road, right? How many Jeep dealers along the route because reading the forum you can't trust a Jeep to drive down the block.

i have the Milepost sitting on my table. A cousin on the Soldotna wants me to drive up there. That is one long drive.

The Dempster is next on my list...definitely a better place to finish, but being a mountain guy, I struggle to imagine much topping the Brooks range on a nice day. Give me a shout if you make it back to AK!

Yea it has been on Ice Road Truckers. The last Jeep dealer in AK heading to the Arctic is in Fairbanks, about 500 miles south of Deadhorse. There are very limited services at the Yukon river crossing, coldfoot and Deadhorse.

It was perfect weather for us. I'd do it again but I don't think the wife would haha.

Been up the Dalton multiple times but KINI hasn't made the trip yet. We've camped and hunted up there.
