I have a bumper and winch sitting in my house that I want to install on my JLUR. I think in total it’s about 140 lbs. Do I need to upgrade my front suspension the account for the weight added?

I know there are lots of people who had to do it for the JK. If so what’s the best way to do it? Leveling kits seem like just blocks, wouldn’t harder springs and maybe shocks be better? I like the current height of the ride so don’t want to change it too much.

Please help.

My winch/bumper weighed 128lbs and did not make 1/16th inch difference.
Cannot even tell it is there.

Jericbarg,

Your Jeep is awesome! The black wheels really set it off and the bumper is hardcore.
Unfortunately it does not look like that anymore.
I put it back to stock and then sold it. Actually it was the first used JL for sale in the USA at the time.
Ordered a JLU Rubicon and will put all that on it.

Thanks for the compliment though!!!

It is just an ebay $169 special bumper.
Mine cost a little less than that as it had some very small blemish in the powdercoat.

What made you sell the Sahara so fast to buy a Rubicon? How much $$$ did you lose on that?

Actually made about $3800 when I sold it.
This was not just due to getting a "great" deal on the Sahara, but getting a huge trade in value($28500) on a Tacoma when I only had $23900 in it.

I prefer the Rubicon, but with the deal I got on the Sahara I could not pass it up.

You make your money when you buy, not when you sell.

If it does sag a bit, you can get front coil spacers for about $20 from Quadratec or whoever online. I'm putting new Dynatrac suspension on this week and ordered extra 1/2" spacers because of the annoying rake my Jeep came with.

Are you scrapping the bottom more on the trail? If so yes, you might need to upgrade your suspension. If you just bolting stuff on to look cool, no you don't need suspension upgrades.

My Zeon 10 with steel rope is close to 100 lbs and I added a Poison Spyder bumper & skid plate (don’t know the weigh but extremely heavy). The front end dropped 1/2 inch on stock rubicon suspension. After I added the LOd rock sliders and Motobilt rear bumper, the Jeep was sagging a bit. I finally changed to the Dynatrac lift with Fox stabilizer and it’s at a decent height.
