I was at Discount Tire a couple weeks ago because I had picked up a nail and screw in the tread of the tire, between 1/2" and 1" of the outer edge of the lugs on my KO2's. Note: I have 35k on these and probably less than a year to go on these tires before I replace them. The discount tire rep immediately told me that they were not repairable and would have to remove that tire from my vehicle because of Federal Law prohibiting the vehicle from being driven. I asked for a copy of the FEDERAL LAW and he said he didn't have to give it to me and that this could become a police issue.... Good thing I was parked in the parking lot. This is a few months after I took it in for a 5 tire rotation and they zipped off 4 tires didn't mark them, threw them in a pile and then just put them on the balancer, slapped a ton of extra weights on them because they didn't take the old weights off and then put them back on the Jeep in what ever position they wanted. Then when I objected they said they don't do 5 tire rotations and I would have to pay to balance the 5th one and extra to rotate it in. Luckily the Manager was in the back room and came out like a cannon shot, all employees in the bay and the conversation seemed pretty one sided. All ended well thought they played havoc trying to figure out where each tire belonged on the Jeep.
Two bad experiences at Discount don't negate all the awesome experiences I've had there, including them replacing a brand new tire with another one while my Jeep partially blocked their entrance. They drug the equipment and tire back and forth across the parking lot to the Jeep after I hit a 1" lag bolt and tore open the center of the tread exiting the parking lot. Do I think people screw up, get full of themselves, try for the quick sell, have a bad day, yes.
90% of disgruntled customers never complain to anyone, 10% complain and that's where customer service comes in. Will I go back to Discount tire for new tires, simply Yes, when it's time. Do I complain, yes. Do I let managers know when employees are doing awesome, yes. You can't fix a problem if you don't know about it.
