Can someone explain to me what the purpose is of this giant pole that sticks up?
I have it on my jeep right now and it's just... ugly and seemingly useless (like me).

Antenna? Chase light?

I've mounted a flag up there when wheeling in the dunes.

Unrelated, but note that there's also a place for a shovel. I didn't realize that for quite a while.

I'd ask AEV. They're usually quite careful in their designs, so they must have perceived some utility.

I use it for my two way radio antenna. The ghost antenna sits just below the hardtop and clears the garage door.

Previous AEV builds mounted a reverse floodlight up there.

So what I'm gathering is it's an accessory holder and not functional or structural (but you're right, @azwjowner, I should ask).

If it ends up being the case it is only for accessories, much like my foreskin, I think it's getting chopped off.

When I went to the dunes in Oregon with AEV we / they all had the requisite whip flags mounted there.

It doesn't really stand out on mine, but I have the fuel cell, so it's mostly hidden.

I've got my top off right now and I think it's so ugly, but we'll see. To be completely honest, I'm not sure I love the spare tire on the back at all when the top is off... it's just so... BIG!

I've always thought it's for mounting/stabilizing the fuel caddy.

You may be right... my 4xe isn't compatible with the fuel caddy, though, nor do I want one! Too easy a target for SNIPERS to BLOW ME UP on the way to the MALL PARKING LOT.

To summarize: you spent a shitload of money on something you don't like.

Not entirely! The bumper is fantastic and the tire carrier goes with it and moved the load off the tailgate (opens WAY better). I'm much happier with this than the EVO setup I had previously!
