I think its main purpose is to bring less dusty, cooler air to the engine and not go "snorkeling" with your Jeep as you suggest. Although Im not surprized people come to this conclusion.. after all, more than 80,000 people called the Kodak Support line to see if the disposable film camera called the "Weekender" would take pictures on a weekday. A simple Google search for AEV's Snorkel results in the information below providing an explanation of its purpose.

I'm fully aware of the intended purpose. I guess my snark was more directed at the huge amount of vehicles I see with every bolt-on option known to man that have never touched a dirt road. Carry on.

I'd definitely pick the JLUR. Configured more for serious overland than for rock crawling. Dogs in the back and gear on top. And I'm partial to the classic look of Savegre (II).

4 dr. Any more details on the roof rack? Can see that its a Pioneer platform but the mounts??? Also, is that a Sahara hood on a Rubicon or a custom AEV hood?

The platform is actually made by Rhino-Rack. The Yellow one is a Rubicon with a sport hood on it to better show off the Snorkel and Hood Graphic.
