Why not go with the brand that has the same name, Crescent. They even have locking ones now...

I have several from 4” to 18”. They are useful but when it really counts I get the correct wrench, especially for tubing nuts.

Several decades back, Craftsman were good tools. In the last 20 years or so they off-shored the tool line and it shows. The ratchets are really rough and I've had a couple fail. One little 1/4" drive is locked up.

On the original adjustable wrench question, I recommend also having a Ford wrench in your bag. They come in handy in some spots.

This is a Ford wrench, in case you aren't familiar. Not available in a metric version.

OMG how could you simply laugh at my genuine question without providing a reply! I need to write a lengthy diatribe now, though my skill at such is seriously lacking.

I’ve almost impulse purchased some ratcheting ones because they look awesome, but held off.
When I first saw this thread I was gonna post something like that as a suggestion haha.

serious question.. do they actually help do anything more that regular cheap crescent/spanner wrenches can’t do?
I used a small 8-10” crescent to hold one side when I put a spacer lift on, worked fine.

I have Knipex and Ridgid. Ridgid hand tools are still made in the USA. Nobody beats their pipe wrenches either. I’ve got the 10”, 14””, 24”, and 36”” aluminum. The quality of the Ridgid adjustable wrenches are phenomenal IMO.

Crescent is offshore now.

I keep a Klein adjustable spud wrench in the tool bag in the Jeep (along with a wrench roll and 1/2” and 3/8” socket sets) great for Lining up bolt holes, prying, etc, and works Great on large nuts/ bolts. For small nuts/bolts, just grab the right socket or wrench, it will save time in the long run (rounded bolts can turn in to an ordeal).

while they were supposed to be prohibited, I have heard several navy engineers keep crescent type wrenches available but they modify them by grinding the tips of the jaws back. True??? Dunno.
