Adhesive tape suspension parts?

So...is it true what they say about Jeeps being held together with tape and fishing line?

Found this gem on the suspension while installing rock sliders:

I can only imagine what this tape will turn into after spending a few years outside and being occasionally submerged in water/mud and bathed with salt and sand.
