Hey Everyone!

New to the forums here, this is my 2018 Jeep JL
DSC09612TIFF.jpg

The bumper install was pretty straight forward (if you dont mind grinding, modeling, and creating your own parts, but in the end now the damn fog lights dont work.
Connections have been checked and verified.
I am unable to find any fuses?? I heard somewhere there is a smartswitch or something for these? I am not a mechanic but I am pretty used to wrenching on cars. There are three connection points for the harness, one by the passenger side on the front, and the other two connect to the fog lights. I am sort of stuck as to what the problem is.

I did talk to the guys at ExtremeTerrain, they did offer to swap out the bumper but i figure its easier and quicker just to handle it myself. Good folks up there, I will be sure to do business again soon.

Anyway, here was the install and what I had to do to get this to fit.

The bumper came from ExtremeTerrain. Unfortunately it did not fit right out the box, the bolt patterns were off about 1/8th of an inch. A Tungsten Carbide bit, my drill, and about 20 minutes were enough to get these etched out enough to install.

Once that was done the bumper could install, but the bolt patterns for the fog lights were bunk as well. I am wondering if this was for a JK?

The fog lights in the JL consist of 4 mounting holes in more of a triangle pattern as seen here

Luckily I'm good at building shit. For my day job I build robotic camera platforms and film long term botanical timelapse for networks and studios. Making a bracket is a piece of cake, about 10 minutes designing on an Ipad and then another hour printing the parts on a 3D printer.

Above is the bracket i made.

I had to drill two new holes in the current bracket, then screwed everything in. It went together nicely

ANNNND below, is the fog light mounted in place thanks to the bracket, no thanks to the holes being all wrong on this.

And now for some Jeep Porn.

Just a few basic mods.
Nerf Side Steps
Shorty Antenna (i hate that sail mast it came with)
Bumper and winch
door sill protectors
Nice heavy duty floor mats.
COMING SOON
Roof Rack system (hoping Rhino gets theirs out soon)
Roof Mount tent. Probably smittybuilt

The idea is to turn this into a moving photography studio for some projects I am working on.

The bumper looks great!

I’m sorry you had to do all that fab work and still dealing with fog light issues.

If the wiring is good, it could be in the connectors themselves, especially if it was actually for a JK?

If you have an account with ExtremeTerrain and have added your Jeep to your “garage” it “should” only show you items that will fit your vehicle..

What bumper is that? I would reach out to the manufacturer themselves.

Express how much fab work you had to do and the fact that the dogs do not work. They may have a solution for you. Certainly you’re not the first person to purchase this FB and have issues.

Jeep looks great though!!!

Edit:

Also, very cool profession! How did you get into that?

You have a 3D printer?! I’d be making all kinds of $h!t!

Hey Bio,

Couple thoughts. Looks like the barricade bumper. I bought the same one this weekend. If you read the description, it only fits LED fogs naturally. That said, seems like lots of people on here fab it to fit. Other options are JK fogs or some aftermarket JL ones.

Now, since I’m in the same boat as you, but far less mechanically inclined, would you mind sharing your 3D print file? About to run into he same problem and this would be a solution. If not, I get it, your custom work.

Good Luck.

The fogs and wiring are stock. I guess I can always meter it out, it’s just a pita.

The bumper came from extreme terrain, I think they build these in house.

Yeah the 3D printers are awesome. I use them quite regularly to build parts and brackets and such. The prices on them have come down quite a bit, I have a forceforge creator pro and a QIDI which is basically a clone of the forceforge, I just picked that one up for under 6 hundo!

The profession is a long story, but I have been doing botanical timelapse and building all my own equipment for about 5 years now as a hobby and managed to be noticed by the right people. I just left an 18 year career in telecom to pursue this full time and just signed on with the BBC to film for. New high profile documentary. It’s like winning the lotto!

Pretty excited to be on these forums, have not don’t the automotive forum thing since I sold my beloved sooped up Mustang GT back in 2008.

:)

@Biolapse

Yes it would be.. I think that’s the route you may have to take though unless someone can chime in with and alternate..

I need to pick one up for sure then. I thought they were still really expensive.. What are the materials costs though?

Wow man that is awesome! Sounds like you’re now doing what you love to do and getting paid! BBC is a big time network! Congrats! My children have been in the industry (television/fashion) for some time now. They pay well for sure. We’ve met some really cool photographers and producers along the way!

Welcome to the forums!!

@Biolapse I take it you turned ON the fog light switch, right? and tested with the park lights or headlights on (fogs won't come on unless)? And not using high-beams (this turns off the fog lights too)?

Otherwise, yeah double check it with a voltmeter and make sure current is making it to the fogs. You could have them backwards too, but a voltmeter will tell the tale either way. Good luck!
