attached is a picture of my new Punkin metalic Sport S with 265/70/17 toyo open country ATll tires. Rims are Helo Split wheels 17 x 9 with -12 offset. Actual amount of tire stickin out beyond the fender is 2 1/4". In my estimation they are perfect. I have waited for 3 months for someone else to post a picture and spec like this. I hope it helps someone out.

any other angle pictures? considering 265 with no stick out offset, probably +18 I am guessing, but wondering how it looks overall.

This helped me out. I was considering 17x9 -12 pro comp 1069s but communist Massachusetts is super strict with poke. Everything is illegal, except dope. Go figure.

The BACKSPACE on my STOCK RUBY WHEELS IS 6", DOESN'T MATTER WHAT THE "OFFSET" is that depends on the width of the rim
SUNP0159_zpsirqps3hb.jpg

The BACKSPACE on my PROCOMPS/LT295/75x16 is 4.5" and they are a little over 2" from the front fenders edge !
SUNP0170_zpsyyswk0a7.jpg

The BACKSPACE measurement will be the same, NO MATTER WHAT THE WHEEL SIZE/WIDTH IS and the OFFSET will vary from wheel to wheel--try to go by BACKSPACE-

Good luck

@JIMBOX that is slightly correct. Not to be rude or anything the only constant that backspacing provides is the distance from the wheel hub to the innermost portion of the wheel..

Offset and Backspacing are both important. Both offset and Backspacing are relative to the width of the wheel

Take for instance this EXTREME example using this link for an OFFSET / BAckspace conversion chart

http://www.wheelspecialists.com/wheel-specs

a 17x5 +38 is a 4.5" BS wheel
a 17x9 -12 is also a 4.5" BS wheel

Although both wheels would have a 4.5" BS it does not stick out the fender the same
Please look at the attached picture and you can see that although the inner clearance is same outer position extends almost 4"

Backspacing is more of a concern w/ turning and not rubbing control arms or inner fender.

Hopefully this sheds some light on things,

Also on a lesser extreme example
17x8.5 -6 and 17x9 -12 both have 4.5" BS
however the 17x9 will stick out half an inch more.

May I ask a stupid question? If Rubis have axles that are 2" wider this will likely mean there is difference in the backspacing of Rubi wheels vs. Sport wheels. So if like JIMBOX says oem Rubi wheels have 6" of backspacing, can anyone tell me how much backspacing would the oem Sport wheels have? An inch less per axle each side would lead me to believe Sport wheels would require 5" of backspacing. Can anyone confirm this? I'm having the darnedest time finding aftermarket wheels that meet Massachusetts requirements. Thanks in advance.

anotheraznguy--you're correct and my posts aren't questioning the difference/similarity between BACKSPACE/OFFSET, but-

We've used BACKSPACING for over 75 years to reference the LEGAL application of the vertical tire distance outside the fender--that is different in all states and BACKSPACE is SO EASY TO REMEMBER when you're comparing different wheels--it will be the same, no matter what size the wheel--

Ain't jeepin fun ??

NOPE, no problems, but-

My ProComp wheels have 4.5" backspace, which gives me close to 3/8" clearance on calipers, but-

There would be trouble using 5"/5-1/2" backspace--because the inside wheel "TAPERS" toward it's center-

Good luck

JIMBO

@JIMBOX any issue with fit on the 16's? haven't seen too many jeepers have them.
