LOL, well I'm a little obsessive like you too then. I didn't talk to many manufacturers, because I expect that I'll just get a sales pitch. That said, I did a bunch of research too before buying a lift. Most of mine was reading reviews, spec sheets, parts lists, etc. I don't think it's obsessive, I think it's being smart with your money. Buy the correct part (for you) the first time. Lifts vary so much, that they aren't a one size fits all item. You have to buy the one that meets your requirements, not necessarily the one that most people have/like.
