I think start stop is disabled in 4WD at least on my Rubicon
yeah that's the case for all of our Jeeps in 4LO. I am curious if the BSG still gives a torque boost in that mode though.

Except ESS still works in 4HI. Unless they changed that after 2018...

Thanks for the clarification , didnā€™t know. Disabled ESS on day 2. Lol
Ah, to each their own. I use it regularly on my daily drive, but if I'm in 4HI on a trail I have to remember to turn it off, lol.

FWIW: eTorque is not active in 4-low on the 2.0. I would bet the 3.6 is similar.

I have a 2.0 JLR, and I'm not sure there would be any noticeable benefit if eTorque was active in 4-low anyway.

Understandable. its such a short burst that's meant to get the engine up to speed I didn't think it would do much off road.

you know it's kinda funny. I just placed my order for a 2021 and I don't know how happy I am about this eTorque stuff on my V6. I wanted the V6 because it's got a good reputation for being somewhat reliable and now I must get eTorque. I didn't want the 2.0 because it hasn't got the reputation of the V6 (yet), but now it has no eTorque but it has a turbo that can go wrong.

So I guess the bottom line is...

- V6 with eTorque/auto -- have the reliability of the Pentastar, but this new mild hybrid system (with potential higher maintenance costs), naturally aspirated - $1500 extra $'s

- 2.0 turbo/auto -- relatively new, not as much reputation, fiat motor, potential turbo issues down the road, reliability? -- no extra $'s

- 3.0 Diesel -- also very new, turbo, diesel, more power, diesel, higher maintenance costs for sure (but is it higher than if something goes wrong with the eTorque system???), exhaust fluid or whatever it is, -- $4500 extra $'s

hmmm...as I said, my order is currently V6 w/eTorque and an auto, I still have time to change it, but it sounds like most guys are happy with it on their V6. I'm also in canada so that $4500 USD turns into about $6200 of my Canadian dollars!

In the same boat, ordered my 2021 Willys with the 3.6 e torque and 8 speed last week. My 2016 Willys had the 3.6 so I wanted to stick with it. I debated for a week or so before I ordered my 21, decided I would get it after reading a lot of positive reviews on the e torque. Good outweighed anything bad about this set up.

where is the battery pack located on the 3.6 etorque? i know there was a briefcase sized one under the Jeep on the 2.0. assuming it's the same on the 3.6.

Correct, under the jeep, about the driver side rear seat location.

I really like my 2021 JLUW 3.6 eTorque. The start stop system is incredibly smooth that I leave it on all the time. I had the regular 3.6 ESS engine in my 2018 Grand Cherokee and the ESS was turned off most of the time.

Before I got my JLU, I was torn about the 2.0 and initially wanted it. But after learning more about direct injection gas engines, am glad I stuck with the port injected V6.

So, how does the undermount lithium battery hold up under water when fording a creek or driving up the river?

The water fording depth is the same with or without eTorque.
