Problems and all, you won't find very many people who mega-loathed their 2007 JKs. Sure they had / have kinks and flaws, but for those kinks / flaws, owners got to enjoy them for a year, two, three, five while they got ironed out (in 2012s maybe?).

I mean this to say that yeah, there will probably be things that are better in 2019, 2020, 2021 JLUs, but meanwhile you'll enjoy your 2018 for 3 years.

That being said, is it better to do a lease for the first few years, then buy in 2019 or 2020? If I buy I plan on keeping it for at least 8-10 years.

Dont ever lease if you plan on keeping the car more then 3 years, the cost of ownership will be way higher. Actually on the Wrangler its not really worth leasing from a financial point due to its high residual/resale value. If you finance you will most likely come away with a lot more equity.
