You just have to make a plan. You can do a bunch of cool stuff in a week or three.

But you have to have a plan.

Long travel day yesterday. The drive should have taken 4 hours 34 minutes. We had a bunch of delays.
The suck part of travel. Three hours waiting at Walmart for a prescription fill that never came in so we left. Stuck in traffic for almost three hours to get through Houston due to many car accidents. We left the beach in Louisiana at 930 am and pulled into a winery at 830 pm last night. We did have a breakfast stop and dinner stop during that time, but it they were not a long stop. I think about 17,855 people in Houston need driving lessons.

On a good note, just passed 2000 mile of towing the camper and we are averaging 12.2 mpg. Not bad for a heavy jeep on bead locks and 37s, pulling a camper that is at least 3,300 pounds.

I believe your 17,000 drivers number should be closer to 170,000 drivers! Houston traffic just plan sucks!

You are way low on the number of drivers that need lessons in Houston. Note to self, always plan for traffic, lots of traffic in Houston no matter time of day even with no accidents. There is always traffic.

What brand front bumper do you have on your Jeep? I'm looking for something like that with the lights more towards the middle.

Just know it is not cheap. I don’t think you can damage it. I think you could run it over with a cement truck and not hurt it.

Well the trip is over. For the most part. Let digress. We knew there was a chance that the trip could end at anytime, but we headed out anyways as everything could work out or it could not work out 50/50 chance kind of thing.

Carla's parents are in their eighties, and were in a serious car accident back in June. A girl on her cell phone ran a red light and plowed into her parents car. Her dad had to be cut from the car. Both had a short hospital stay. Her dad suffered a closed head wound. He has not been the same since. Carla was taking care of them and taking them to physical therapy two and some times three days a week. Plus other medical appointments. They finished up physical therapy the first week of December.

Mom healed up fine but Dad has struggled and has had lasting effects from the closed head wound. Dad seamed to be doing well/better and Carla’s brothers and sisters and her parents were like hay we got this go travel .

We said before we left that if something went wrong Carla can always jump on a plane and go home. Well a couple days ago, her dad stopped eating and then last night he had a bad fall causing him to go to the hospital. Now he doesn’t want to eat or drink, and can no longer get up out his chair and fell again this morning. He is loosing his cognitive abilities too. He is going down hill fast.

So last night family was like hey, he will be okay, then this morning about 1030 am, her brother called and said you might want to come home. I bought Carla a plane ticket from San Antonia Texas back to Lansing Michigan . She flew out at 4pm and should be landing at 1140 pm.

After dropping her off at the airport, I headed to Cornercanyon house and will hang with Cornercanyon for a day then start making my way back to Michigan early Sunday morning.

I am in no hurry to get back home, as Carla will be busy with her dad. While she has two brothers and a sister, she will be the best advocate for her dad as she has personally traits and skills that tend to make her very effective in dealing with people and getting what she wants done.

I plan on doing 500 or so mile days until I get home. With some luck maybe we will be able to head to Alaska still in late May or early June….If we do, it will a new thread.

Maybe a few cool pics out with Cornercanyon before I head out on Sunday

Sorry to hear that. No doubt you’ll be back at it in no time, but as I am sure is your motto - family first. Take care of them!

A good reminder with nothing but a plan and some short time you can still have a great adventure!

So very sorry to hear you are cutting this adventure short, but sounds like the right decision given the circumstances. Hope that the situation improves and stabilizes for your family back in MI.

We will all be here whenever you get the chance to plan the next trip - take care of the family in the meantime and enjoy the drive back as much as you can, too.

Hope when she gets home things will work out better for her father. Be safe driving back on your own and watch the weather - some bad storms out there.

Sorry to hear about Carla’s parents and her dad’s additional struggles. There’s nothing like great family on your side. Hopefully things will get better.
