I wanted to build a large picnic table for when the family is over and the plans called for 12 2x6s and 6 2x4s. I could have fit a couple in my JL, but this is a lot of heavy wood and I didn't want it all resting on the tailgate, so I borrowed my wife's JLU. Thank God for soft tops and nice weather!

I used ratchet straps to the child seat anchor points and put a towel over the sport bar so I didn't damage the trim. Worked out great!

LOL you guys crack me up!!! I feel like everything here in North Jersey is expensive anyway (homes, rent, food, etc) so I'm not even sure how much worse it's gotten. I got all ground-contact rated wood (probably overkill, but oh well). The 2x6s were around $13 a piece, and 2x4s were around $10 a piece. I have no idea how that compares to prices a few years back because I don't buy lumber that often.

Another reason why I decided to buy a soft top too. I live a couple miles from the river here, so I figure I can throw my kayak in the back and strap it down, and with the top down ill be able to make the quick non-high speed drive over to the river.

Obviously for longer trips I would get a hitch rack or something, but for some quick kayaking it seems perfect!

That's over twice the price it was in Jan 2020, Mr. Big Spender. 😆
