So I upgraded my 7' in my 2019 Sport S to an 8.4 that I purchased here on the forum.

It came with the following version:
Hiuc6f-AQat4TsuZzaq7EGLQ=w1590-h1193-no?authuser=0.jpg

With a take off I expected to never receive any OTA's nor dealer support and after a bit of searching I have found USB files that worked for me to update my radio.

*Disclaimer - These files worked for me but I am not responsible if you have any issues*

I found various UAQ update files that someone posted here on a Ram forum.

I used the UAQ 34.2 Update file, extracted it and placed it on a USB flash drive that I had. I turned on the Jeep with the flash drive in the USB 1 and let the update run it's course.

Overall the update only took around 15 minutes. I let the car idle while the update ran and did not keep an eye on it. I was greeted with the following screen when the update completed:

Everything seems to be working well for me now. I will report back if I stumble upon any issues.

Nice!

That's the same version I have - and it's the latest available publicly right now through Mopar for our 8.4

I see some of the others in that thread are complaining about xm presets not saving with 34.2, are you experiencing this?

I have not had that issue yet. But if I did I would just downgrade to the previous version that was posted.

I have updated to version 30.24 on my radio successfully. I have not upgraded to version 34.2 based on comments on the original thread that Joaozao posted (the ram thread).

There are some tricks though from reading that thread that you need to follow. You will need to download 22.5 (9gigs). This has the most recent MAP files you need if you have a UAQ radio. Most of us that are interested in updating are on 21.10 or lower. So reading through the dealer docs for these upgrades, there is an order they recommend updating in. In fact, the documents say for 34.2, that if you upgrade from a version earlier than 28, you might brick your radio. So they imply a process.

I was at 21.10 and from there I updated to 28.3 (1gig), you will need to copy the map files from 22.5 to the 28.3 files if you wish to retain maps/nav.

Then I upgraded 28.3 to 30.24 (1gig), and again I needed to copy the map files from 22.5 to the 30.24 files to retain my maps/nav.

I stayed away from 34.2 based on people stating that XM presets were not working properly and resetting after every time you shut the engine off.

I hope this helps. Let me also add, Im playing it safe... Im sure not all of us will experience the same things, but these are what I read and I took into account for my upgrades. I will be following the thread and see what happens for everyone else.

Good luck!

@LanceM according to your profile you have a 2018. So you're implying it's possible to update an 8.4 from a 2018 to more or less the latest software? I'd like to get away from the separate "radio" and "media" apps in my 2018.

I'm running 28.30 on a replacement radio out of a 2019. My original radio ate shit during an update because the aircard was dead, so I'm a little apprehensive to update again. Any noticeable changes or improvements with these later versions?

This is exactly what I want to do. Just because of those buttons. Didn't know it was a thing until the Gladiator showed up in the garage. Now I'd like it to be the same. I'm on version 21.10 now.

The system is much faster too. Along with the menus in the cluster. Much faster.

Yes, I have a 2018 and yes the radio is also a 2018, so you can upgrade following the directions I posted or reading the 4 page thread linked in the OP.

The aircard is the 4G cellular radio the UConnect uses to establish GPS positioning for navigation. When you do an update, it requires the aircard to function (I believe it writes data/updates to that device as well). If the aircard is toast, the update will fail as will the process to restore the previous version, cause the radio to repeat the process endlessly, and essentially brick the device.

Where'd you find 22.5? I'm not seeing it on that thread.
