You didn’t add a glass screen protector from amazon for like $10 when you got it? (((Ducking)))
Not sure I fully understand your reply, are you being sarcastic making a joke that I didn't buy the $10 screen protector when i bought my 5th new jeep or saying I'm a fool for not doing so? please help me understand. I have several dozen touch screens in my life (including several other jeeps, without screen protectors) and still do from over the years. the only screen protectors I've ever purchased, I've purchased to prevent damage to the screen from dropping it (ie cracking it), NOT from touching it. Its a TOUCH screen, touching it should never damage it. I do not use protectors on my phones either and have never had damage to them from "touching" them. If the jeep 8.4" screen is that sensitive to touch damage perhaps they should've made it with the protector already installed. to suggest its the users fault for not using a screen protector on a touch screen to prevent "touch" damage is pretty absurd. I mean no offense.

For like $57k plus I expect a touch screen that i can actually touch and not have to worry about damaging it from touching it. ((Ducking))

Wow! That really dos look like there are a lot of scratches. How dry is the skin on your fingertips?
My fingers are not dry at all, theyre very clean and i dont use an abundance of chemicals on them. none of my other touch screens have wear on them from touching them. Cheers!

Yes, I was making a joke. I get that it’s a $50K+ vehicle, but there are a lot of those out there these days, the JL is not alone in that class and there are lower quality cars at that price point. I always use screen protectors on my phones the same way I use a life proof or pelican case to protect the body drop from an accidental drop, or so it doesn’t get bent. I scratched a screen on an iPhone 3 back in 2010 and that was it for me. First it was crappy plastic protectors, then years ago they came out with better glass protectors. What if you take the JL to a car wash and the cleaners are rough with it? Most have signs stating they are not responsible for touch screen damage. I’ve had several touch screens too. The one in my 2012 F150 FX4 held up great for a year or two and then I added a screen protector. The one in the 2014 Escape that my wife traded for a JL had a screen protector. Screens on window mount Garmin units have worn on me over time, but I never used screen protectors on those. My wife’s JLU has a screen protector. The JLU I recently received also has a screen protector. Why? Because it’s a built-in unit that I don’t plan to replace like a window mount device. Do you use floor mats to protect the carpet? I do. Not trying to start an argument here. Take it to the dealer, get it fixed, and add that $10 screen protector. Problem solved.

Just wondering if anything ever came from this in regards to replacement or repair? I was cleaning my Jeep yesterday and noticed the start of what looks like the same wear on the touch screen you have. It is were I switch apps for Apple CarPlay. My Jeep only has 11k miles. I wouldn’t expect this amount of degradation already. I had a 2011 Grand Cherokee and the screen looked pristine when I traded it in. Not sure if it is a faulty anti glare covering similar to what MacBooks had not to long ago (Apple replaced all of those under warranty). Here is a photo of mine. I plan to put a screen cover on it but I’ll wait to show the dealer first.

Hi Brent.

Yup that looks like the same wear mine has. My '11 & '17 JK screens are perfect with no wear at all. I have a protector but not putting it on til i get this taken care of. To be honest i havent pursued it any further yet. I'm at the tail end of my busy season (swimming pools). I plan to go see my selling dealership to see what they have to say (they're an hour away), hopefully sometime next month. I'm having other issues with the 8.4" Uconnect system so I'm confident that they'll replace it for me (at least I'm really hoping so, lol)

Cheers!

Hi SpyDJeep and NorCalSahara,

We are sorry to see this concern with your touchscreens in Jeeps. If you are in need of additional assistance while your Wranglers are in service, please feel free to send us a message.

This is definitely the (oleophobic or other) coating being worn off prematurely. Improperly applied at production IMO. No excuse for this.

Honestly, we should not need screen protectors on these displays. They should be well-designed to withstand normal use without excessive wear. Also screen protectors don't work so well in environments that change temperature drastically (prone to bubbles) and they hate direct sunlight (yellowing). They can end up being distracting bubbly messes, and applying them perfectly is no easy feat.

Phones and tablets are different. A phone gets thrown around, in pockets with keys, etc. A tablet gets thrown into backpacks and bags. Those are both used with dirty fingers when eating/drinking, they're dropped on the floor. None of that is the case with a screen in a vehicle. Plus 95% of the time the screen is not touched at all, it's just a display device. Phones and tablet screens are constantly being touched and tapped and dragged.
This is clearly a manufacturing defect/failure. That's what warranties are for, right?

Looks like the same damage that plagued Sony cameras a while back. The anti-glare coating gets scratched off with normal use. On new models they have a semi-permanent screen protector applied.
