If someone is so stupid as to dump a gallon of water down the pipe, they deserve a locked engine, thus a 12 oz can and even if you dump it you still have 6 or 8 runners it needs to go down. In addition when the water hits the combustion chamber it instantly turns to steam. Hence you need to do this on a fully hot engine bay. When I did it on my engines I did a hard run out the hwy, I wanted that engine HOT! So I set up a table of a couple of cans of water in the old days I used a church key to open the can and later on they were tab tops. They don't dump water in.

Helps if you have a friend. You come in HOT and pull the air filter or the hose and have you friend rev the engine. I tell them, WATCH ME. OK REV NOW to about 3k rpm, as they do I pur and as soon as he lets off I stop.

Why I tell folks to disconnect the exhaust is because chunks of carbon will spit out and you don't want it go into your CAT. IF you can get at it drop the pipe at the exhaust manifold, and wear ear protection.
We used to take cockroaches and shove them down the carb on an old Briggs and Stratton powered lawn mower. Why did we do it? We were just just dumb but we learned something. I can tell you that you could keep it running but man, the exhaust stunk for a while.

We also built a go kart out of wood and found out, wood does not stand up to a snowy winter when you go out and do what they call "drifting" today.

This video is helpful

I did it at 65k miles. My tips are:

Be gentle with the plastic clips on the coil pack. Gently use a flat screwdriver to pry the white piece back but not too far or it will fall out, then push on it with a finger and use the screwdriver to pry the connector apart.

The plugs are deep, use a 6 inch plus second socket extension. When installing the new plugs, it takes a bit to get the crush washer collapsed and then it tightens up.

Had no error codes before or after the project, took a little over an hour.

Did anyone happen to use grease on their new spark plugs?
You want to use some antiseize with the aluminum heads. It's all I've ever uded.

Always...THIN coat of any lube I have handy, this to install the plug. Do not apply a heavy coat of anything as it can bake on and make the plug harder to remove. Just enough lube to screw in the thread. You may want to take a rag with some WD 40 on it and wrap around your finger and wipe the threads if you can get your finger in or on the tip of a screwdriver.

According to NGK (who makes the spark plugs for the Jeep)
1. Anti-seize
NGK spark plugs feature trivalent plating. This silver or chrome-colored finish on the threads is designed to provide corrosion resistance against moisture and chemicals. The coating also acts as a release agent during spark plug removal. NGK spark plugs are installed at the factory dry, without lubrication or anti-seize.
Anti-seize can act as a lubricant, altering torque values up to 20 percent, increasing the risk of spark plug thread breakage and/or metal shell stretch. Thread breakage can sometimes involve removing the cylinder head for repair. Metal shell stretch changes the heat rating of the spark plug and can result in serious engine damage caused by pre-ignition. Do not use anti-seize or lubricant on NGK spark plugs. It is completely unnecessary and can be detrimental.

Trivalent plating.. hmm news to me. Good to know though! I've been using a VERY thin coat of anti-seize on plugs for years since the advent of aluminum heads. Sounds like technology caught up.

Loved the 928s back in high school but now I am a 4 ringer.

This thread is reminding me I need to source plugs For the Audi and lots of fluids and plugs for the Wrangler this fall.

Thing is, OEM's don't apply anti seize to spark plugs (if there is one they are an oddball). Plus, Porsche (which was strict about this on the air cooled ones) stopped. I do remember back in the days, we always did anti sieze. Problem was plugs went 15K. So by the time you had 60K on the clock, those threads were all gooped up and plus, the trick was, take a long screw driver down and clean off the sealing surface, then blow it out. If not, plugs would leak compression around them.

Yes, times have changed. Same for why unleaded gas does not cause burnt valves (lead was to cushion the valve seat) or all injection pumps on diesels would wear out because of low sulfer diesel or that you had to break in camshafts and the list goes on.
