Hi Y'all,

I ordered a Rubicon 4XE and were wanting to tow a small camper with it. I would like to add a lift and 35" tires but I'm sure what the mods would do to towing/power/etc. The camper is like 3200Lbs. If anyone has added a lift/35"tires and pull a camper, could you please share your knowledge? Also, share what size lift and shocks you have pulling your camper?

Thank you JEEPERS!!

3,200 dry? If so, you'll be flirting with the max rated tow capacity, if you're not over.

On my first lift (2" F / 1.5" R spacers on stock springs) and 37" KO2s we pulled a Rove Lite (~1800 UVW, 2500 GVW) to Uwharrie and it pulled fine. Squatted pretty good and I should have adjusted the headlights (easy to do). I did need a pretty good drop hitch to make it low enough to get the trailer level. I did not run up extreme grades at highway speed, assume you'll be doing that up in WV.

Note, although I'm confident it's underrated, the payload sticker on our Rubi 4xe is 850 lbs (I believe all JLUs are rated the same). With a class 2 hitch, IIRC you're limited to 350lb tongue weight. You'll be close on payload and may want to check trailer tongue weight rating.

The trailer tongue weight is 325lbs, and its actually 2800lbs dry. From what I understand the
Towing Capacity - Maximum 3500.

You ever give this a tow with a 4xe? I'm currently in a gladiator thinking about going to a 4xe wrangler and have an a-liner expedition that is within a few pounds of yours.

With my 4xe Sahara, I tow a 7x14 v-nose cargo trailer (around 25-2700#) several times a month. The Jeep doesn't know the trailer is back there (aside from worse mpg).

We tow a 2000lb 5x8 V-Nose no problem - 4xe is all stock. It's a pretty nice experience - the max regen helps a lot with slowing down. I haven't found the need to install a trailer brake controller like I had in our '18 JLUR.

I don’t want to rain on your parade, but you are starting at like max tongue weight and very close to max overall weight. Frontal area of your trailer will also be a big consideration. While I know systems are typically over engineered, I personally would not be wanting to tow anything at our near max capacity. This is based on 30+ years of towing several different campers behind a wide variety of vehicles. Campers tend to always run heavier than advertised, and once you have added propane, batteries, and water, you can often be several hundred lbs over the “advertised” weight. You will find the whole towing experience a lot more fun at half to 3/4 of rated capacity than you will when approaching / exceeding max. Scale the trailer before you buy-you may be surprised. Also, subtracting 350 lbs (tongue weight) from your Jeeps carrying capacity will leave you a bit light in the load carrying area. You, a spouse and kids/dogs can easily exceed rated carry capacity. Years ago a friend bought a 18k 5th wheel to pull behind a 3/4 ton truck rated to pull 13 k. It would pull it, but trying to stop and climbing mountains was “interesting”. I had a 1ton at the time rated for 14.5 k and our 5th wheel was 11k. Guess which rig was the most fun to drive. Be safe! Good luck with whatever you decide.

It’s a tad higher than that actually. I took delivery of a soft top 4XE Rubicon today, and in my personalized videos and checklists, it stated mine specifically tows 3610.

So, realistically there are a couple things that come into play, and Jeep has "standardized" the published ratings.

To my knowledge, all the door stickers for JLUs indicate payload of 850 lbs (regardless of actual payload), this is different than say my Ram, where I have a vehicle specific payload based on options.
Also, the stock towing package is a Class 2 which I believe is rated for 350/3500 lbs. There is an aftermarket one available with higher rating (Draw Tite Max Frame at 675/4500). Jeep lists all 4 doors at 3,500 lbs in publications to my knowledge.

So let's start with Payload, since tongue weight gets included in payload.

To my knowledge Rubicon 4xes have 6400 lb GVWR (my sticker), looks like Sahara's have 6200 lb (guessing that's the sweet 20s)
Ignoring options, curb weights per Stelantis: 5100 (Sahara 4xe); 5222 (Rubicon 4xe). IIRC that includes fluids and a 150 lb driver.
So mathematical payloads would be:
Sahara 4xe = 1,100 lb - options
Rubicon 4xe = 1,178 - options

Then lets go to actual calculated trailer rating, which realistically changes based on the actual weight of the vehicle and payload. Using 10% Tongue.

GCWR per a Stelantis spec sheet:
Sahara 4xe:
GCWR 9000 lbs
Minimum Trailer: GCWR - GVWR + Tongue Weight = 9000-6200+10%= 3,080
Maximum Trailer: GCWR - Curb = 9000-5100=3,900 - Options
Rubicon 4xe:
GCWR 9200 lbs
Minimum Trailer: GCWR - GVWR + Tongue Weight = 9200-6400+10%= 3,080
Maximum Trailer: GCWR - Curb = 9200-5222= 3,978 - Options
